The Scene – Chocolate tones and retro lamps dominate the ground-level bar, where downtown workers sip from a menu of martinis, wines and cognacs. Downstairs, a vaulted ceiling and dark-wood paneling contribute to the feeling that diners have entered an elegant wine cellar. Side nooks decked out in orange paint offer privacy for a more intimate experience. – – The Food – Freshly caught seafood does most of the talking: lump crab meat with just a smattering of breadcrumbs comprises the crab cake appetizer, while a starter of grilled shrimp gets some heat from chipotle…

Where to Sit:
Take a seat at the bar in the dining room if the upstairs one is mobbed.
What to Drink:

Look Good:
Request a private booth when you make your reservation; they're available for groups as small as two.

The Extras:
A private party room has space for up to 60 guests.

  1. The crab cakes are the best I've had in a long time and the lobster bisque has a great spicy kick to it.
  2. The seafood sampler was huge and underwhelming save for the surprisingly good crab cakes (all crab and virtually no filler).
  3. off/bottle. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious and my husband and I really enjoyed our Shrimp Enchiladas and Lobster Ravioli.

  1. For wine, the restaurant has on staff an wine expert to go along with an impressive cellar of close to 500 bottles I learned.
  2. They had a great special on wine that night.
  3. PS- The happy hour drinks and apps for $5 and lobster / crab legs are excellent.
  4. Our waiter was not very helpful as he did not seem to know the food menu nor the wine menu very well.
  5. The bar was not warm and inviting at all.

  1. love devon seafood grill.
  2. The creme brulee was too sweet and had almost a soup-like consistency with none of the vanilla bean sediment that usually portends a good brulee.
  3. The crab cakes are the best I've had in a long time and the lobster bisque has a great spicy kick to it.
  4. Fantastic seafood.
  5. The scallops with lobster risotto were beyond delicious!
  6. Chicago has some good seafood restaurants with great food and excellent service, like McCormick and Schmicks.
  7. If you go, do not order steak, stick with the seafood.
  8. would order this dish for my self over a steak.
  9. We regularly dine out in Chicago, 2 - 3 nights a week, and this was the worst meal we've ever had that we paid more than $100 for.
  10. The crab cakes appetizer was fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone.
  11. Our glasses were always full and the food was great.
  12. The seafood sampler was huge and underwhelming save for the surprisingly good crab cakes (all crab and virtually no filler).
  13. off/bottle. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious and my husband and I really enjoyed our Shrimp Enchiladas and Lobster Ravioli.
  14. While the food was decent, the overall experience was below average.
  15. Devon's -great service, food and ambiance for the fun professional
  16. Our Valentine's meal was about as elegant as eating at a stripmall Chilis.
  17. was first skeptical because it's difficult to find excellent seafood in the midwest, rightfully so.
  18. Weather it is just the two of us dining out for an evening or if we are entertaining local or International guests we have always enjoyed the best possible food and service at Devon Seafood Grill.
  19. The portions were very filling and it was some of the best seafood I have ever had.
  20. For dinner, i had the hawaiin tuna steak which has a perfect char-grilled crust and wonderfully rare in the center, fresh.
  21. Me and my friends go to Devon's pretty regularly- the food is great and very consistent.
  22. Our kids are not your hot dog, mac & cheese or nothing kind, and it was nice to be able to have them get good seafood without splitting an adult entre.
  23. Big menu for a seafood restaurant.
  24. Overall I recommend this place for the food but do not go expecting an amazing experience.
  25. It's the best seafood i've had in chicago thus far -- I dine out in chicago 1-2 times a week at similar restaurants.
  26. Great option for seafood in Chicago
  27. PS- The happy hour drinks and apps for $5 and lobster / crab legs are excellent.

  31. If you want quality service and great seafood, go somewhere else!
  32. Our waiter was not very helpful as he did not seem to know the food menu nor the wine menu very well.
  33. The seafood is consistently good and some of the best I have ever tasted.
  34. For appetizer, we had the shrimp cocktail which is what shrimp cocktain should be like, LARGE and juicy.
  35. It's good food for a great price everyday.
  36. The cioppino was not good - overly thick tomato broth (almost like pasta sauce instead of a broth) smothered the fish.
  37. Best seafood, best customer service.
  38. love meat and can tolerate fish.
  39. Other restaurants like Devon overcharge customers for basic quality seafood and terrible service in a dining room that looks like it belongs on the Loveboat.
  40. Wonderful seafood- great ambiance!
  41. The waitress was clueless about food -- my wife asked if the caesar dressing was more towards the parmesan side or mayonnaise side, they answerer parmesan and guess what, it was one of the worst caesar dressings we've tasted, way too much egg/mayo flavor,
  42. For Appetizers the Oysters Rockefeller was one of the best dishes I've ever tasted.
  43. Devon is a wonderful place for some of the best seafood I have ever had.

  3. In a city where one could eat at a different great restaurant every night of the year (from Alinea to Zapatisita and every hole-in- the-wall in between) and not repeat oneself, Devon has about as much of a chance of survival as we Chicagoans have of seein
  4. Devon is a great place with a great concept, if they can carry out as promised.

Can't say anything besides Fantastic!

by iamjacksshrink at Citysearch

Being in the industry I always find myself grading the places that I dine both the food and waitstaff. I took a friend from out of town after being recommended by a coworker and I was not disappointed. We started off with the baked crab cakes (recommended by our server) that were phenomenal, than I ordered a center cut filet that came with breaded shrimp while my friend got the chefs tasting menu. She did also choose to add the wine pairing for an additional $15 and it was definitely worth it. Often times scallops aren't prepared correctly and are very chewy, but the pan seared scallops that came with her meal were easily cut with a fork and melted in my mouth. Would definitely recommend this to anyone searching for quality seafood and will be back!

  • Pros: Best scallops I've had in my life
  • Cons: None!

Great Food and eat with celebrities

by Sherrill at Citysearch

Last month I was in the lounge with some friends and in walks Paula Dean from the Food Network! I couldn't believe it!

Then last night I was downstairs eating dinner and saw several members from the International Olymic Committee! It looked like they were enjoying their last dinner in Chicago.

Me and my friends go to Devon's pretty regularly- the food is great and very consistent.

They just changed their menu a bit. Highly recommend the Lobster Cobb Salad and Lobster Mac and Cheese.

And if you have a sweet tooth- the Carrott Cake is always awesome.

  • Pros: Great Food and Service
  • Cons: Make a reservation- they are busy!
