The Scene – Chocolate tones and retro lamps dominate the ground-level bar, where downtown workers sip from a menu of martinis, wines and cognacs. Downstairs, a vaulted ceiling and dark-wood paneling contribute to the feeling that diners have entered an elegant wine cellar. Side nooks decked out in orange paint offer privacy for a more intimate experience. – – The Food – Freshly caught seafood does most of the talking: lump crab meat with just a smattering of breadcrumbs comprises the crab cake appetizer, while a starter of grilled shrimp gets some heat from chipotle…
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- On Thursdays, lobster is sold at market-price--one per person, first come, first served.
- Where to Sit:
- Take a seat at the bar in the dining room if the upstairs one is mobbed.
- What to Drink:
- Napa Valley's Estancia Vineyard is the "featured winery"--try one of the eight relatively inexpensive varietals offered.
- Look Good:
- Request a private booth when you make your reservation; they're available for groups as small as two.
- Know Before You Go:
- Separate lounge hours allow for extended cocktailing: Mon-Sat 11am-2am and Sun 11am-11pm.
- The Extras:
- A private party room has space for up to 60 guests.

Can't say anything besides Fantastic!

Being in the industry I always find myself grading the places that I dine both the food and waitstaff. I took a friend from out of town after being recommended by a coworker and I was not disappointed. We started off with the baked crab cakes (recommended by our server) that were phenomenal, than I ordered a center cut filet that came with breaded shrimp while my friend got the chefs tasting menu. She did also choose to add the wine pairing for an additional $15 and it was definitely worth it. Often times scallops aren't prepared correctly and are very chewy, but the pan seared scallops that came with her meal were easily cut with a fork and melted in my mouth. Would definitely recommend this to anyone searching for quality seafood and will be back!
- Pros: Best scallops I've had in my life
- Cons: None!
Great Food and eat with celebrities
by Sherrill at Citysearch
Last month I was in the lounge with some friends and in walks Paula Dean from the Food Network! I couldn't believe it!
Then last night I was downstairs eating dinner and saw several members from the International Olymic Committee! It looked like they were enjoying their last dinner in Chicago.
Me and my friends go to Devon's pretty regularly- the food is great and very consistent.
They just changed their menu a bit. Highly recommend the Lobster Cobb Salad and Lobster Mac and Cheese.
And if you have a sweet tooth- the Carrott Cake is always awesome.
- Pros: Great Food and Service
- Cons: Make a reservation- they are busy!
Great atmosphere, Great Service, Food was wonderful

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here last weekend. It was a great place to go for a special dinner or just a regular dinner too. It was a very warm and comfortable environment. The service was great our waiter was very friendly and helpful. They had a great special on wine that night.(Sunday) $10 off/bottle. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious and my husband and I really enjoyed our Shrimp Enchiladas and Lobster Ravioli. Beautiful Presentation! We were too full for dessert, but looked great! We will definitely be back. Devon's is highly recommended!
Great Wednesday and Thursday Specials
by jefrondorf at Citysearch
I love devon seafood grill. They offer lobster at market price on Wednesday and Thursday - it is an unbeatable special. I come from Philadelphia were the origonal devon is and it is just as good in Chicago. It is a great place for a date or to take clients. The price are not super expensive, but you feel like you are at a top notch city spot.
