“The only disappointing aspects were that they had run out of 2 different dishes we wanted and the chocolate cake we ordered for dessert was dry and disappointing compared to the rest of the meal.”
“Their wine list was extensive with a great selection of affordable bottles.”
“The food was great, the waiter was very knowlegable of the menu items, and patient with my party's various dietary restrictions.”

Good, if you by good you mean bad.. Despite the hype, it was hardly necessary to call in advance. The highly anticipated outdoor patio was really just a paved over backyard complete with garage and next door neighbors walking through the gangway. The bread and olive oil were boring, and the starters were decent at best. I ordered the herb crusted rib-eye medium rare and got a black hunk of meat. I'm convinced the indian restaurant down the street would have served a better cow. Overall Erba could have been good, if only it wasn't terrible.
mmm.... I was a bit worried because I had read mixed reviews about this place but I really enjoyed my meal. They were out of the appetizer we had originally ordered so we got the polenta with wild mushrooms and they were accomodating enough to leave out the gorgonzola like we had requested. I had the tagliatelle bolognese which was tasty and fresh. Their wine list was extensive with a great selection of affordable bottles. The only disappointing aspects were that they had run out of 2 different dishes we wanted and the chocolate cake we ordered for dessert was dry and disappointing compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, I would definitely recommend Erba for a polished, Italian meal.
Seasonal ingredients get liberal doses of fresh herbs at this lively Lincoln Square eatery, whose name means herb in Italian..
The Scene
Quiet conversation isn't on the menu during the dinner rush at this snug Lincoln Avenue destination. Chatter rebounds off the wood-beamed ceilings and warm earth-tone walls, and swirls among patrons sipping wine and waiting for a table at the small bar near the entry. Weather permitting, patrons can dine without the din on the rear patio.
The Food
The Northern Italian supper menu is short but studded with herbaceous flavor. The prosciutto de parma with asparagus in white truffle oil marks an earthy-savory start. Also memorable among the antipasti is the opulent herbed polenta with wild mushrooms, rosemary, garlic and gorganzola. Among the main course offerings, the rich, spicy pappardelle with sausage, sweet peppers and escarole stands out, as does the grilled chicken breast with tapenade, which surrenders juicily under the fork, and comes with broccoli rabe and sweet potato. Also worth sampling: sea scallops with sambuca, spinach and garlic.
Great Dinner!. I read a few reviews that said ERBA was a disappointment. I feel like a lot of the reviews I have read are completely unfounded. The food was great, the waiter was very knowlegable of the menu items, and patient with my party's various dietary restrictions. To accomodate my sister, the waiter even suggested she build her own pasta dish! Everyone left the meal satisfied! Highly recommended!
