Editorial Review for Five Star Bar & Grill – by Fred Schlatter

In Short
This addition to west Chicago Avenue aims for immediate appeal over subtlety. Inside, the large space is anchored by a long, wrap-around bar and muted lighting from suspended globes and table lamps. Black leather-upholstered benches line a wall below dramatic red wallpaper and vintage mirrors. Back rooms serve different purposes; the first is packed with vintage concert posters and a billiards table, the second, a secluded area with a stripper pole. A menu offers fancified bar food.

I'm thankful to live close to Five Star Bar, because it saves me on the cabfare I would spend if I couldn't walk there. I am a fan of rock music, and Five Star is all about the rock. Their decor is that of old rock posters and concert materials. The soundtrack is befitting of the decorations and the theme. The last time I was there, I thought the DJ was playing my personal iPod. When it's warm, they have a great outdoor patio to enjoy their great selection of beers. When it's time to pack it inside, I'm entertained by the in-house stripper pole that gets more fun to watch as the night goes on. I've never eaten there, but some of my buddies rave about the mini sandwiches and buffalo wings. I usually end up getting there a little after dinner time to enjoy the drinks.

They have the coldest beer I've had in a long time, great service and the food was really good too. Thanks for bringing something different into the neighborhood.
