Friendly sushi spot rolls tasty rolls in a tiny Lakeview space..
The Scene
A couple of cool Japanimation prints hang on the mango and tangerine walls of this cute little Lakeview nook, where a dozen people can squeeze in at a few tables and upholstered chairs at the sushi bar. It's a comfortable, atmospheric space, but takeout is a better option; with just one chef behind the counter filling all orders, sit-down service tends to lag.
The Food
Blossom's menu of sushi standards offers good, fresh Japanese fare at very reasonable prices: Most nigiri are $1.50 per piece, with a wide selection of maki for less than $5. There's edamame and miso soup to start, but it's worth trying "mussel on the shore"--an intriguing, savory appetizer of baked, chopped mussels mixed with crabstick and Japanese mayo served on the half shell. Spicy tuna roll has just the right kick, though the chef's liberal use of sweet unagi sauce weighs down otherwise tasty spider and caterpillar maki. For dessert, go for green tea ice cream or a selection of bubble teas (mango, green tea, plum).
Makes you come back!.
We found this restaurant 6 month ago. Since than we go there every week, if not 2 times. :)
This is not an upscale restaurant. Yes, it does not have a lot of seatings, but we never had a problem to find a place. Staff is very freindly, atmosphere is beautiful. No loud music... You can actually talk and enjoy your dinner. Food is always very delicious, we were never dissapointed.
Absolutly love the spicy maki combination. Their Mochi icecream is unbelievable. It is also B.Y.O.B.
NOT good for groups, just not enough space. Bur great for dinner for 2 or 4.
Love this restaurant...
Getting better with each visit. The owners took over last summer and they had a rough start...I was a big fan of Cafe Blossom before the takeover. However, I have been there about 8 times since then and they have done an excellent job. Their godzilla roll is the best. Although it is small, the atmosphere is probably the best part. In the summer you can enjoy eating your sushi outside. It's also BYOB.
Excellent Sushi!. I'm VERY picky about sushi places and this one was excellent. We had 4 different rolls and all of them were very good. Our favorites were the Spider roll and the special of the day which was a tempura shrimp something, can't remember the name. The other fish that we had that wasn't cooked tasted very fresh as well. It's B.Y.O.B. and you can sit outside. We were very happy to find this place.
Ace in the Hole. I wouldn't write this review if I didn't like the staff and hadn't just moved from around the corner - because I don't want to share Cafe Blossom with the rest of Lakeview! The service is great, the sushi is fantastic (and not just the usual fare), and it's cheap. It's TINY, but seating is usually available - which makes me suspect (and hope) that they're doing a booming delivery business. Give them a try (especially if you like dining outside and watching the folk go by) and you'll be happy. I don't work there, I promise.
The best of best.
My name is Soyo.
Resently I went to the Cafe Blossom /my secret spot/ and I had my favorite sush and I can not wait to write about how good it was.
If you are sushi lover then you should check out the place. The price is affordable and you can also bring our own wine. There is no corking fee and they play the coolest music of all.
