I'm still a fan.
After reading the previous reviewers notes, I have to say that my experiences at the GG in Wheaton has been very different. The staff has always been friendly, drinks are (almost) always being filled before they go completely empty, and the only time we had an issue with something (the food had been left to sit for too long without being turned, to the point of being almost burned on one side and barely done on the other), the owner came over, the bowls were hustled away and we went up to make new ones.
Other than the service, having eaten at a number of mongolian style bbq's over the years, Genghis consistently does it right. They focus on what they're here for, no salad bar, no soup line, just make your bowl, fill it and grill it. The sauces have a good flavor without being overdone, and (with the one exception noted above), they don't overcook the food. Other places that I won't name in this review consistently overcook the food to the point where everything tastes the same, and it doesn't matter what you put in the bowl.
Also, after years in Dallas, where the Genghis Grill was everywhere, the Wheaton location innovates. They've introduced a breakfast/brunch for Sunday mornings, taking the same concept of choosing your own bowl, and working it in with omelets and pancakes, bringing a high degree of customizability to dining out at breakfast, a meal where typical restaurants give you options without choices, other than sides, such as the variety of toast, or pancakes, with your denver omelet which will contain exactly the same things regardless of who orders it or when. And again, they cook it right. The pancakes are fluffy with just a bit of crisp to the top before butter or syrup is applied, exactly as it should be.
You can say what you want about having a bad experience on a saturday night when it's crowded and noisy, but, as for me, I'm a fan.
TERRIBLE service.
My husband and I have been to Genghis Grill in Wheaton a few times in recent months. The service has never been stellar, they are very slow on refills and don?t come to the table even when it?s very slow. My husband really enjoys the set up though so we decided to go there Saturday night. We were waiting at the bar and I noticed everyone was being seated that came in after us so I explained just that to the owner. She was very upset that we had not heard her. She asked other people to verify that she had called our name, I wasn't even upset when I went up to her I just told her that people were being seated that came in after us. She was literally scolding me for not hearing her, which was totally embarassing. I don?t understand scolding a customer, I don?t know when that is ever right. Just because she owns the place doesn?t give her the right to treat people like that. I warn anyone not to go to this place if you want good service, you will not find it here.
I was literally shaking when I left because this woman was so mean and psychotic. If she can't handle a little business, that is not fault. Treat your customers with respect.
