“The dishes are mediocre and some seem as though they were bought frozen from a restaurant service and heated and served.”
Disappointing.
I've been there 3 times. It looks like a place that would have a good meal, but after 3 tries, no luck. The dishes are mediocre and some seem as though they were bought frozen from a restaurant service and heated and served.
I want to to be a good N. Italian spot, but it's not.
GREAT REAL PIZZA, BREAD & WINE HIDDEN GEM IN EVANSTON...ROCK ON!!!!!!.
After a very disappointing dinner at Pizza DOC recently, I learned from friends that the familiar faces and great food had moved to Trattoria DOC in Evanston.
On our first visit to Trattoria DOC, we discovered the outdoor dining, much to our delight. My friends and I felt as if we were in Rome dining ?al fresco?.
To start off the evening we had the fresh baked bread, that was bought to our table. We were marveled with the bread, we were amazed that the bread is baked fresh daily on siteand is also sold on request. The bread was reminiscent to the bread that we had in Rome, so many years ago. The pizza menu is large but I decided on one of my old favorites, the Pizza Patate and Rosmarino. My friends had never had the potato pizza and found it to be wonderful. The fried calamari were tender, light and crispy. The tomato sauce for dipping was delicious. The spaghetti al vongole was perfectly cooked ?al dente? and the bottarga made the dish so flavorful that I will be going back for it again and again. The bucatini all?amatriciana, an old Roman dish, was cooked to perfection. The tomato sauce was bold and tangy with just the right amount of pork. The veal saltimbocca was tender and seasoned perfectly. The creamy panna cotta and croccantino desserts were beautifully presented and the perfect end to our dinner.
The wait staff was friendly and helpful with our wine selection. Much to our added pleasure, we found that there is an abundance of available parking.
