When your chef friends say that a basically no-name, super casual restaurant has the best seafood in the city, you better run there, not walk.
Must try Mexican sea food.
UPDATE: This location was re-located to a larger place with parking lot. (two blocks south of the original) 6835 S Pulaski Rd

Maricos El Veneno is a tacky enjoyment for superior Mexican sea food. The cuisine is based from the Mexican state of Nayarit, known for its sea food recipes. I went with two friends and decided to order a 3-person platter of oysters, shrimp, and octopus cooked Nayarit style. Prior to receiving our order, we were served complimentary crab cakes on tostadas along with a special home made salsa made from scotch bonnets peppers and onions. Now since I do not eat salsa (allergic to very hot spices), my friends stated the salsa was superb. As for the platter that we orderd, the food was excellent, delicious and fresh. So we left fully satisfied. Since we went on a Sunday morning, we avoided the long wait lines that occur during weekend evenings.
So overall, this place has great sea food in a tacky atmosphere. The service is great and the prices are very reasonable. They even have live Mexican music (that day they had 3 differently style bands).
PS. Bring your Negra Modelos and Pacifico beer since the restaurant is BYOB
Exquisite Mexican Sea Food. This restaurant lives up to it's name! Not to be confused with poisonous food, but the meal was exceptionally well. Yes the decor is tacky and the restaurant could easily get crowded, but the sensation of the food is worth while. We had a large dish of various type of sea food grilled and spiced up to great satisfaction. I pardon for not recalling the name of the dish, but I do know it was amazing.
