Geek Squad Alternative

At one point or another we all need computer repair help and I am no different. I found myself in need at the worst possible moment. In the middle night, when everything is closed and the night before a report is due. I called Geek Squad online support for help and was charged for the $199 virus removal service. They connected to my pc and attempted to remove the problem. After a couple of hours and a whole lot of coffee and nail biting they call me back and say there is nothing they can do. This time, the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent and seemed to be calling from overseas. And long with this and the fact they said the virus is too embedded to be removed without causing further damage and system instability. I get off the disappointing phone call and am still sweating because this report is 35% of my overall grade in this course and I absolutely had to have this done in the morning. I run a quick Google search for a solution when I find SecureRemoteSupport[dot]com who provides online services and have a “No Fix No Pay” guarantee. Wow that would be nice if Geek Squad offered the same promise. Within an hour they had diagnosed the virus and had removed it completely for $105. And best of all, I didn’t lose any of my work and my operating system was completely repaired. Apparently the Geek Squad isn’t as good at their job as secureremotesupport[dot]com is. I really appreciate their diligence on fixing my issue and suggest others think twice before contacting Geek Squad to fix their computer.
Best Buy Clark Street - Swindle Central - Exorbitant Prices, Horrible Service
by SpencerLord at Citysearch
If you are reading this, you cannot say you haven't been warned. Mike Miller is running one of the most customer-unfriendly stores I've ever shopped in. I went through 2 hours of annoyance returning a laptop, only to remember I left my home video HD backup disk in the machine. They stole my disk (and lied about it), as well as ripped me off for $120 by denying the defect in my last machine. The Chicago Clark Street Best Buy store is a flimflam, a double-dealing hustle. The manager, Mike Miller, is an uber-lousy businessman who shouldn't be anywhere near customer service. Avoid this Best Buy at all costs. Do yourself a huge favor and go to Microcenter, and ask for Rodney (weekends) or talk to the sales supervisor, Mr. Hernandez - their prices crush Best Buy. Rodney was superhelpful, and his supervisor greeted me personally (and the laptop I ended up with is way better/cheaper than BB's). And if you've had a bad experience at the Clark Street Best Buy, join me in writing Brad Anderson at 7601 Penn Avenue South, Richfield, MN 55423. Tell him all the details. I really liked them before they swindled me today. Oh, and since Best Buy stole my disk, we will never see the HD movies I've shot over the past week. I hope you're enjoying my HD files Geek Squad Ganks. Mike Miller is the worst manager in Chicago. Shame will be this stores legacy.
- Pros: location location location
- Cons: dishonest, sticky-fingered, rude, unintelligent, deceitful
If they ever pick up the phone....
by lis81 at Citysearch
It took three calls and a total of 15 minutes waiting time before someone would pick up the phone in the proper department. Yeah, if I had that kind of time I wouldn't need to call ahead in the first place. I think overall my favorite part is the person who answered the phone. After I had told her I had called previously twice and wasn't able to get through she immeadiately put me on hold with out saying anything for another extended period of time.
I suggest asking for Brian, in the digital camera department, he seems to be the only competent and able bodied person in the store.
