Slick Talking Paver Installer. I agree, 3 years ago he took money and half finished leaving a mess. I still have his estimate with letterhead. He is only cheap because he did not purchase and install important materials to keep pavers and wall from dislodging and falling apart. No landscape blanket or special sand that turns hard when wet put down first under stones and behind wall to keep dirt from washing through wall and prevent the sinking of pavers, both which started right away. Cheap metal edging along sidewalk came apart allowing stones to seesaw. No edging iron pieces along garage to keep from moving. The wall was left too short to hide old materials and not long enough to match other side of drive as we designed. Other wall around garbage cans was built too narrow and they wouldn't fit, had to have that redone too. Never came back, failed to install 4 steps and complete porch & wall and correct drive and walk and walls, all for which he had already been paid.

He sent his men to take away the mound of sand left to finish but soon as they saw me they stopped and left in a hurry. Many calls made with no reply both fall & spring, had to pay someone else to finish, who told us why it's falling apart.

The nursery center where he took us to buy stones said he is on their list of people not allowed to buy there. That's why he sent us to counter to pay for them. If anyone makes you pay for the supplies it's also because then you can't prove that you didn't do the work yourself and no proof he did it. Every place I mentioned the bad job they all said first Tony Hard Rock right? I would hate to have anyone else taken by him. It sounds like the first review was written by himself, no one else would know the details. Karma will catch up to him.

We had many others out before deciding to trust another. Most never called back as it was a mess to fix and impossible to redo all that had been left out. Ask a paver center to list all the steps necessary and then ask the installer what exact steps he does in construction your project without giving him hints. That's the only way to know if you are getting a bargain or a mess.

Tragedy, and a happy ending. This summer, Tony started a major project of removing the old sidewalk and porches of our six-unit townhouses, and replacing everything. Tony's quote for the work was less than half of what we had gotten from other contractors, so we expected a finished job that would be serviceable, if not beautiful.

After a quick start of breaking up the old sidewalk, his crew put in the concrete pads for the new porches. After that , things went downhill: Tony's elderly parents ( down in Florida ) were beaten during a home invasion, and both were hospitalized. Tony went down to care for them, a stay that ended lasting a couple of months. After his mother's death, Tony brought his dad back to Chicago to care for him, and was further involved in selling the home he had bought for them.

Once he got family matters settled, his crew got back to work, and put in the beautiful paver walk, and the really handsome porches that far exceeded what we expected. The delay was annoying and unsettling, and some of our owners got very angry. I trusted that Tony would do the right thing, and he did.

My only criticism would have to be not keeping in touch with us, but given what he was going through personally, I understand how that could happen. And he came through for us in the end!

Rip Off Artist. What a descpicable person/businessman. First the guy talks a great service and he's gonna be there to get things done. Then he gets the money - next he does NOTHING, have not seen from him in months. Tries to call the phone number, and its his brothers house and he doesn't know where he is. Look for someone else!
