You can't swing a chopstick in Lincoln Park without hitting a slick sushi restaurant. In-the-know young professionals, however, flock to this standout BYOB for the long menu of addictive maki, such as the Yum, Yum, Yummy--a Cali roll plus cream cheese and tempura shrimp--and the sunflower seed-studded Sunny with spicy salmon and mango. Everything is served up with a side of smiles by the gregarious chef/proprietor. Noise levels in the tiny room, packed to the gills nightly, can become conversation-impairing, and tables are closely packed. So, unless you want the lowdown on your neighbor's…
#1 sushi in the world

I have searched high and low for good sushi in chicago and no matter what, I keep coming back to Toro. Although the service is lacking, there is no place in chicago that you can get such creative and tasty rolls. The fish is always fresh and Mitch, the head chef, brings a personal touch to the restaurant. They do not take reservations and seating is somewhat limited as they only have about 7-8 tables, but its worth they wait. They are about 2 full pages of creative and unique rolls that you cannot find anywhere else. If its your first time, I would recommend going with the Yum Yum Yummy roll or the California Tempura roll. Not only is this one of the only sushi restaurants in chicago that really steps out of the box in terms of creativity, its BYOB. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the best sushi of your life.
As long as you bring a little patience you are guaranteed to have a amazing sushi.
Outstanding Sushi

The sushi here is some of the best I've had anywhere...I would put Coast as my second favorite. The service is a little slow, but it's worth the wait. There is always a line here for a reason!
- Pros: friendly staff and great sushi
- Cons: the wait can get long real fast
Ok sushi, small & slow

First time visitor and didn't have high expectations, but really walked away disappointed. A man was sat right after I placed my "to go" order and they stated it would be 30 minutes. The place only had 3 out of 9 tables sat and I ordered 3 maki rolls and rice. Seems simple and seems simple enough that it shouldn't take 30 minutes. Well I walked down to pick up some groceries and came back 20 minutes later. Order was still not ready, but the man who was sat after I placed my order was well on his way eating. Another 20 minutes go by my order finally comes out and the man that was sat after me left about 10 minutes ago.
Moral of the story.... plan to wait.
- Pros: Neighborhood feel
- Cons: When you look close... not well kept
