Editorial Review for Cru Cafe & Wine Bar – by Fred Schlatter
In Short
Bumped from the corner spot when it closed to remodel, the new space occupies two adjacent storefronts nearly doubling the capacity. A wood-clad foyer serves to direct patrons left to the handsome zebra wood bar, or right to a lounge equipped with a cozy fire place and plush couches. Further back another room accommodates sit-down diners. Everyone drinks wine, most tables also ordering from the smart small plates menu.

I visited Cru on a Thursday evening and I was very impressed. I sat in the bar area and the bartender was the only one taking care of the comfortable crowd, but she provided great service. I was very impressed by the wine list. I saw some terrific Washington State wines on the menu, and was even surprised to see a Virginia winery make the grade. The list was accessible to novice and oenophile alike. I had a Grenache flight that included an Australian, French, and American samples. All were very good. I also had a great dinner. I started with the bruschetta that was of two varieties one tomato the other olive; both had great flavors, good portion sizes and well presented. For dinner I had the crispy thai chicken, which was a boneless chicken breast. The skin was still on and definitely peppery and crispy. This was one a bed of jasmine rice that was done up in some way because it was a little sweet and a little creamy; a great balance to the juicy crispy chicken. Also included were crisp green beans and carrots. It was a great “Thai” take on a typical chicken entrée. I finished with an Australian late harvest Semillon that was quite good. The atmosphere is very nice, it would be a great date spot, or just a stop for a great glass of wine.
Pros: exceptional wine list, good food, good atmosphere
Cons: could get pricey, but well worth it

We love Cru. Better Menu and Cool VIP room. Great list not the ordinary stuff. Come to educate your wine pallette.
Pros: A-Plus
Cons: Wish they had Domaine Carneros Rose or Le Reve on the menu!
