The Scene
Maroon and marigold walls and jewel-encrusted hanging lamps set the stage at this spot, where neighbors push two-top tables together for group dinners and dates cuddle over cocktails. Soft Indian music plays overhead, while slightly obsequious, black-clad servers offer handy explanations and advice.
The Food
Indian flavors and ingredients get a twist in starters such as plump scallops sprinkled with garam masala and served with fruity chutney, or a seared, peppercorn-encrusted yogurt that reaches an ideal textural blend with micro greens. The vegetarian thali entree offers a chance to sample three dishes that will make you swoon: saag paneer, a mild chana masala (chickpeas) and spicy andhra egglpant, while meat lovers should try the two juicy lamp chops, which are marinated in yogurt and mustard seeds. A lappable Kheer-rice pudding flavored with cardamoms and pistachios makes a sweet way to end the evening.

Because I am often in Chicago, I tend to keep lists of spots to visit and Marigold had been at the top of my list for a few months! Our son ordered take out for all of us on the Sunday after Christmas; we ordered a wide variety of items to the tune of $80. Were we surprised when the Tandoori Chicken priced at nearly $19 consisted of a part of one chicken breast thrown on a bed of dry basmati rice! The other items were somewhat disappointing too so my son decided to call Marigold to talk to them. We understand perfectly well that take out does not compare to in house plating but this was ridiculous! He spoke with a person claiming to be one of the owners. Because of our disappointment, he offered to send a $50 giftcard to our son so he could give them one more try either in house or with take out. To date (and it's been 3 weeks) nothing has appeared in the mail, even though the "owner" supposedly took down his name and address. Very very disappointing and just one more reason to never give them another try! As an update our son received the certificates in the mail yesterday (1/17). At least the owner is honorable so now we'll see how the restaurant rates with their in-house service and presentation.

You either get this place or dont, most people are too cheap and try to compare sub par Indian food on Devon by price instead of quality. Marigold has authentic Indian food and is by far the best in Chicago. If you have been to London then you know what I mean. We had the new curry specials, the Chicken Korma and the spicy seafood Chingari (sp), it was so good! I would recommend that the table share, it's more fun. The waitstaff was so knowledgeable and the owners bought my wife a delicious spicy chocolate cake for her birthday! We loved this Uptown gem.

I did not enjoy my dining experience at Marigold Indian Restaurant - the service was slow and screwed up my order on several occasions. The quality of the food was not quite up to par in terms of authentic Indian cuisine.
