Contemporary American fare and a swank lounge make this Loop restaurant a perfect spot for power brokering and happy hours.. In Short
When Loop workers tire of the food court at the Thompson Center and a casual, yet classy meal is in order, this swank restaurant answers the call. A dimly lit downstairs dining room--decked out with glass mosaic tile, mahogany furniture and U-shaped booths--hosts business lunches all within view of a bar and exposed kitchen. Upstairs, three separate dining areas boast glimpses of the street scene below and neighboring El train. The food is contemporary American. Think pear salad with candied nuts and cranberries, Philly cheese sliders and cavatappi turkey Bolognese pasta.

Have to agree with the other bad review. I met a friend there after work a few weeks ago. I swear I thought it was my friend writing the review other than it wasn't the around the time she and I went. We also had incredibly bad service and dirty, 1/2 filled glasses. I'm not a newbie when it comes to wine so I'm not expecting the big gulp of cab. but more than a couple of ounces would be nice. A clean glass would have been even nicer! It was so noticeable that we both looked up from our glasses at the same time as if to say, "so this is it?" After getting only one drink through our server, I went to the bar to order our second while my friend stayed at the table to see if she could find the waitress--she was not successful. In fact, we had to go to the bar to pay our bill after already complaining once about the poor service and waited for 10 minutes for our bill after failed attempts by the bartenders to locate our waitress. There are way too many places to go to waste half your time tracking down a server when free time after work is a scarce commodity as it is.

A Midtown Mess.. Midtown Kitchen + Bar in the loop at 203 N. LaSalle leaves the grown up feel off the menu. From the folks behind Bar Louie, Red Star Tavern and One North, their attempt at upgrading their niche of college night spots to a hipster loop hang out really had potential, but was lost in delivery. Hidden behind new veneered countertops and high def TV?s was just plain bad service. Our first visit to Midtown included snailish service and dingy stemware. We had sincere hope that it was a simple mistake that our glasses were filthy and served half-full until our second visit when it happened again. Dirty and half empty wine glasses are apparently a repeat offense for this bustling new kitchen and bar. What was even more surprising was the flagrant lack of regard from the wait staff that hardly checked in on us and made little apology for their slip-ups. After a third attempt and more bad service rather than add this cool looking new happy hour spot to our corporate carousals, we?ve bagged this joint as a hopeless dive. Midtown has a lot more growing up to do if it is to survive.
