The Scene
The Armitage storefront marked by a red awning gives way to a spacious dining room with soaring two-story ceilings and sweeping murals on the walls. An immense landscape of Rio de Janeiro backs the curved bar, offering a dramatic focal point. A staircase leads to a second dining area overlooking the main floor. Despite the cavernous feel and piped-in South American pop music, conversation is unchallenged. Service, though well-meaning and friendly, is scattered.
The Food
The meat, potatoes and seafood menu encompasses traditional dishes from Peru, Brazil and Argentina. Fat empanadas, wrapped in a flakey, slightly sweet pastry, and sirloin-stuffed croquettes made from mashed potato set the tone for the rich meal. Well-seasoned beef dishes, like 2-inch-thick grilled bone-in rib eye and smoky tenderloin strips sauteed with tomatoes, onions, potato and Pisco outshine underdone, bony grilled halibut. Silky passion-fruit cheesecake drizzled with strawberry sauce offers a light, refreshing finish.

My wife and I dined at Rio's on a Saturday night and the place was EMPTY at 6pm. Can you believe that? I'm pretty surprised to see all of the great reviews. I had no idea what to expect. We were so excited to try this place. Our food (ceviche, papa rellena, arroz con mariscos and lomo saltado) was mediocre and the service, although very pleasant, was not particularly great. Food took about 20 minutes, and drinks another 10 minutes, the wait was just tooooo long. The say the least, it was overall quite disappointing. The food just wasn't very good, especially for the price. PLEASE STOP WRITING GOOD REVIEWS, DONT LIE CAUSE FOR SURE THE FOOD AND SERVICE IT'S JUST HORRIBLE!

We have been here 5-6 times & every time we have been extremely impressed. The shrimp soup is awesome. Aros con mariscos is awesome, Brochetas is awesome, the porterhouse is aweome - really 100% every time. The Tuesday drink is $4 - the Caiprinhi, is made from a good quality Argentinian sugarcane rum, lime & sugar - better than the best vodka lemonade we've ever had & it's 4 dollars) Friday are very good pitchers of Sangrias for $15. The place handles big groups, with plenty of room between tables (so you don't feel crammed in), and has really nice decor.
