not worth the time & money. Walked in looking to support local grocery store in my neighborhood, but was not greeted with any kind of welcome. The store was sparse and prices are higher. It seemed like a good idea to provide fresh food instead of going to a fast-food or frozen dinner, but it's not they are using fresh/organic produce to support local and sustainable farms. Not impressed by their staff and the actual place.

uh when are they open?. I have gone by to try this place out so many times because it's convenient to my house but I have yet to find them open when I try. This website says they are open at eight, but it is now almost ten on a Thursday and their doors were locked. I guess I am going to Jewel. I don't know how to rate it because I haven't been in there yet.

A unique shopping experience. August has become my new favorite place to shop for groceries. The owners, Angie and George, both have vast experience in cooking and food preparation, and their advice certainly comes in handy when I'm stumped on what to make for dinner. Anytime I've needed help they've been more than happy to offer suggestions and tips. Their store offers basic staple cooking/baking items along with quite a few favorites of George and Angie. They also offer daily lunches and dinners to go, which are always prepared fresh and taste amazing. During the summer they have outdoor seating in their back patio. Oooooh, and the other day they were serving home-made strawberry lemonade, which was awesome!

Perfect Grocery Store. Stopped in August grocery store for the first time last night and was very impressed. It is located just one block south of the Division blue line stop in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The owners of the place greeted me on arrival and were very helpful in helping me select some items to cook for dinner. They were very personable and friendly, which is a welcome change from other grocery stores. The store had a very european feel to it. The produce, seafood, and meats were first rate, along with the cheese, dried meats, and breads. The seafood was very fresh and they had a large selection. I tried their prepared to-go dinner of the day and it was excellent as well. The store has a little bit of everything you need to make a wonderful dinner, along with all the staples. They also had household items such as detergent and paper towels. I love "August" and plan on shopping there more in the future. I am so glad to see a place like this open in the neighborhood. This place is a welcome alternative to the sketchy Jewel two blocks away. I highly recommend this place.

A focus on fresh ingredients is meant to get people back in touch with cooking and food preparation at this Wicker Park store.. In Short
In the former space of Hillary's Urban Eatery, brother and sister team George Djurovic and Angie Kongabel have opened a grocery store focused on helping people make simple meals with fresh ingredients. With an ample selection of cookbooks available to peruse, August Grocery has an open kitchen format with staple ingredients on wire racks, produce to the side and separate refrigerated cases for meat and fish. The meat is all natural and free-range, while the fish is kept whole and cut to order.
