What People Are Saying About Lava Lounge

In Short – Digs sport a similar intimate, insidery vibe, now rendered with dark slate, custom pendant lighting and a groovy, red-glowing light and panel installation running the length of the narrow room. A raised back DJ booth is small, but the sound is big, perhaps too big for the tight space, although the young, bohemian-chic crowd doesn't seem to mind. Canned regional domestics and imported bottled beer are preferred two-to-one over cocktails.
great dj's, great soundsystem

While the old lava lounge was bigger, cheaper and a lot more fun, the new lava hasn't lost all it's good times. Every wednesday they do seminar ( a night devoted to drum n bass) and different genres of music on different nights of the week. The new lava has a very swanky look to it. I love this place cuz they support many different types of music besides top 40 and house music (which is overplayed in chicago clubs.) The staff could be a little more friendly and the drinks could be a little cheaper, but the cover charge isn't bad considering the talent they bring in from across the world, as well as featuring great local talent. It's not all that big so get there before it's too packed to let more patrons in. All in all it is a bar I would recommend to friends. as for trendy guidos and tools I would recommend zentra, enclave or ontourage
- Pros: music, soundsystem, location
- Cons: cost, service
The Underground lives in a nightclub in Wicker Park!

LAVA is a great place. It is one of the few places in Chicago that truly supports local djs and promoters while keeping it fresh and bringing in international talent. The music varies each night and LAVA keeps it fresh by offering the best in good hip hop, house music, electro, drum and bass, and more. There isn't a cover on most nights and weekends are always in the $5-$10 range. The sound system bumps and the crowd is fun-loving and open-minded. It's on Milwaukee Avenue in the heart of trendy Wicker Park. Great spot!!!
- Pros: Good location, inexpensive, good music, unpretentious
dull dull dull

not at all like the old Lava Lounge. such a shame. no more punk rock. more like punk wanna-be's with way too much unnecessary attitude. i mean, really, bartenders with attitudes is no different than the idiots at McDonald's with an attitude.
The Details on Lava Lounge
Know Before You Go:
This is not necessarily a conversation-friendly place--in other words, look for a quiet lounge somewhere if your intention is to settle in with drinks and chat.
When to Go:
The small space becomes a madhouse on weekends--it only holds around 100--so shoot for a weeknight when the tables get the same love from a local DJ but without all the elbow jockeying.
The Extras:
Music gets top billing here, namely house and other electronica courtesy of local DJs.
