What People Are Saying About English Bar & Restaurant

An art deco facade of pastel terracotta inspires a vintage interior. Multicolored mosaics cover most walls, offset by rich walnut, wrought iron and glowing amber chandeliers. Large black-and-whites of old guard Hollywood add swagger. The action happens at street level where a large bar and dozens of high tops attract suits for post-work refreshment. Upstairs features a pair of pool tables and booths for dinner service and another bar on the top floor.
Late Night Place
by RHopkins at Citysearch
English truly is a late night bar. Come close to 11 or midnight for the best crowd. The 3 levels always offer a great time and differing atmospheres as well. Check it out on a Friday or Saturday night.
- Pros: tri-level
Can't be Beat!
by JConnely at Citysearch
I frequent this place on most weekends... not only is it usually busting at the seams with hot girls, the staff is attentive and know what they're doing, and all the servers are beautiful as well. Not to mention free pool on the 2nd and 3rd, bars on EVERY level and food until 1am! Can't be beat.
- Pros: Free Pool, food till 1am, HOT GIRLS
Bar should value its customers, not run them off for new ones
by Ichabod1980 at Citysearch
Food was average and staff is rude. They made it seem like we were bothering them.
When we spoke to the manager about the attitude of his staff, he basically told us he didn't care because there are others who will take our table when we leave. We will never go there again.
- Pros: Near Martini Park
- Cons: Very rude staff and management, average food
The Details on English Bar & Restaurant
On the Menu:
Gussied up Anglo-American bar food is the charge here. Filets get crusted with Earl Grey tea and steamed mussels are finished with curry and ale. At lunch, pressed sandwiches, like a glistening egg BLT, and large salads are popular.
The Extras:
Despite all the vintage effort, the bar is is also equipped with ten plasmas flashing financial news and the latest sports headlines.
Where to Sit:
If warm, street-facing tables benefit from the large windows that open generously onto LaSalle. In winter, opt for the cozy upstairs booths.
