A cool cat's place in uptown taken out of the 1920s & brought to modern day. Great beer menu & phenomenal food. Try the burger.
Great addition to the neighborhood!. We have been going to Fat Cat since they opened for drinks as well as watching Sunday football. Their drinks are great, I've tried all their martini's as well as their Bloody Mary's, and they have a good variety of beers. Try this place if you haven't The wait staff and management are friendly with the exception of my one unfavorite waitress. Give this place a try if you live in Uptown and support this bar, we really needed a neighborhood bar like this in Uptown.
I am in LOVE!!!!!!!!!. I have heard some mixed reviews about this place but I have to say I went on Sat night and it blew my socks off!!!! The staff has character, the manager is adorable, and they all know how to turn you on to something new. I went in for lunch with my friends and loved it so much that we came back for drinks later in the evening. We had the manager making us drinks for lunch, the girl turned me back on to gin after swearing it off for years! This isnt your typical bar scene with bleach blonde cocktail waitresses in mini skirts, its totally diverse and caters to all types of crowds. Definatly check it out
Great Improvement!!!. Gave the place a chance after a few bad experiences when they first opened. Had read a ton of great reviews on metromix so we decided to try it again. Great food, great drinks and we have a new favorite bartender in Chicago! Keep up the good work.
Bad food, overpriced and poor management.. Food and drinks all overpriced and to top it off the manager is rude and unfriendly. I'm shooting pool with 8 other friends enjoying our ourselves, until this "guy" jumps in. He fails to introduce himself nor does he shake your hand after each game. His demeanor is cocky and unsocial. After hours of playing, drinking and spending way too much money does he finally break his silence only to ask if we are taking care of our servers? I found this odd and asked why is it his concern. His response was "because I'm the manager". I was floored. He wasn't concerned about how our service was nor if we enjoyed the place, his only concerned was if we were taking care of his establishment. This was the second and last time we will visit Fat Cat.
Great Place!. We're new in the neighborhood and we were really excited to find this place - and we were not disappointed! The food is awesome, the service prompt and the ambience fun. I wish we had more places just like this in Uptown. We had read a few reviews before going and we were prepared for poor service, but we received just the opposite. We've been back a few times now and each time our server is prompt and efficient. Twice now we've had management come by our table to check on us and ask how we're doing. And did I mention the food? So delicious!
Not a happy time at Fat Cat. so i don't usually write reviews of places, but i was so excited to try Fat Cat because it's very near my house and i'm a Green Mill patron, so I thought it would be great to have a cute vintage swanky place to eat before a show...i was so incredibly disappointed tonight in so many ways i don't even know where to begin. being a Friday night, we knew it would be crowded - not a problem - but the noise level throughout the place was deafening - if you want to have a conversation during dinner, this is NOT the place to go. the drinks were ok - at the table we had a hi-hat, a sidecar, and a beer -- the cocktails were sugary, watered down versions of the real thing - you are better off just getting a draft. for an appetizer we had the corn-doggies, which were quite good, but our main courses left much to be desired - pulled pork sandwich, house burger, and grilled cheese all lacked flavor and were not anything that i can't get (better) at any other comfort food/upscale bar food joint. the service was ok - nothing outstanding - but what really got me was the amount of flat screen t.v.'s everywhere - why have dim lights and candles on the tables when everything is illuminated by the sports channel? it was very distracting and annoying and destroyed what potential there was for ambiance. (there was one directly behind my head, and i had one to my right and one right in front of me) if i wanted to go to a sports bar, i would have. i expected something very different from the write-ups i had read, so i'm very sad to say that i really did not have a good experience tonight - my party and i thought maybe we would come back during the week when it isn't so crowded, but by the end of our evening we all said once was enough - and will probably never go back.
Worst Service and NASTY FOOD!!!. What a waste! We have been to Fat Cat 3 times. The service is the WORST SERVICE we have ever had. The first time we were went to Fat Cat, we just had drinks. That is the only reason I will go back. The food is nasty! ( I can use more educated words, but NASTY is the best word to describe the food.) The second time we ate at Fat Cat, we had the Fish fry... where's the fish??? The entire plate was just soggy batter and stale french fries. We took my parents to eat at here yesterday and AGAIN... terrible service. It was dead in the bar, yet it still took over 10 min. for a server to take our drink order. My mom had the Crab Salad, I had the pulled chicken sammy, and my husband had the cuban. ( My dad had the cobb salad, it looked good, but its just a salad.) Everyone in my family was sick all night long. We all know this is what Uptown needs, a place to hang out; without going to Andersonville or Wrigleyville... BUT if FAT CAT CAN'T GET IT TOGETHER... we will NEVER hang out there again!
love this place!! great beer selection, yummy food & friendly service.. love this place!! great beer selection, yummy food & friendly service. the reuben ball things are the bomb!! it's like a reuben sandwich rolled up & fried into a little ball. genius!! they have a lot of beers, some you don't see everywhere. our waitress was friendly & attentive. we even met the owner. she was running around talking to the customers. you don't see that many places. i will definitely go back.
Uptown corner bar shoots for swank vintage, but it's the comfort food that keeps guests happy..
In Short
Glassy frontage looks sharp against an older facade. Inside the new-old line continues in a curved, deco-ish bar with vertical lamps and soft red-painted ceiling. Booths along one wall feature comfy wrap-around seating while four-tops line the perieter. Old photos of the 'hood make for interesting but sparse decoration. Two loaded taps service the mostly local crowd, and a capable kitchen puts out gussied-up comfort food, like crispy mac-n-cheese morsels and griddled sandwiches.
Fat Cat needs to figure out its identity. What are we doing here? A retro bar? Sports bar? Neighborhood hangout? Small bits of all of the above (and the wayyy too many TVs) highlighted by, of all things, 80s and 90s rock music, make this a confusing experience. If you're pushing the "40s" angle, teach your bartender how to make a proper Old Fashioned and back it up with good bourbon. Wait a couple of months until they figure out what they're trying to do here.
