“The staff is friendly and helpful and the decor is great.”
“Staying at the House of Blues Hotel is an interesting visit, with the unique decor and easy accessibility to area attractions, but when the hotel is booked and busy with coventioneers, keep on top of the staff for your "free" goodies like the daily newspa”

Editorial Review. Guests stay in style and comfort when they book a room at Hotel Sax while visiting the Chicago area.
Too cool for the room.. We popped into the Lounge at Hotel Sax Chicago before a show at House of Blues. The attitude at this place is unbearable. The tight shirt wearing, over-tanned, no-neck bartender looked me over from bottom to top to bottom before smirking and asking "wat can I getcha?" I ordered 5 drinks and handed him a one-hundred dollar bill. That was apparently enough to earn the privilege to sit at his bar.
Loved the Decor. The hotel was something different. Not the cookie cutter rooms in other hotels. The lobby bar was packed and fun every night. The location was great, close to everything. The rates were very low for the location. The restaurant in the lobby was terrible. There are much better places to eat close by.
There's Nothing Like Good Sax ;-).
RIP, HOB Hotel. Now it's the Sax Hotel, and this past weekend was my first stay. What an interesting choice! This hotel is hip, from the lobby and reception areas, to the lobby bar, to the room decor. And they manage to pull it off, without seeming to try. My room was a decent size, impeccably decorated, with a huge bathroom. The shower had an oversized head, so you could take a drenching. This is a great feature, one more hotels should offer.
There were only two thing keeping it from a five star review. One, the toiletries were not replaced, so I had to ask for more at the desk (on a positive note, when I returned to my room, there was a small bag with two of each, so a nice recovery), and the concierge. I requested tickets for the Gospel Brunch at the HOB next door, and was told they were sold out. Frankly, my experience with concierges in other cities is that "sold out" is just the first step in their process of getting you the tickets. You may pay more, but they deliver. Not the case here. I find that inexcusable, considering the venue is next door, and a former affiliate. He didn't seem to even try. For a downtown hotel, I expect more. My advice would be to send that guy over to the Embassy Suites, and let him book aquarium tickets for the weekend families. Hire a real concierge, one that can get things done.
Horrible experience, WASTE OF MONEY.
My boyfriend and I both worked on new years eve and day. Instead of the celebrations those days, we decided to have a romantic fun night at the House of Blues Hotel. Upon arrival the staff was very friendly, I thought I had made the right choice! As we entered our room, the view was nothing to brag about, we were staring at a parking garage. The robes and complimentary blues cd were no where to been seen. As we called downstairs to recieve these items, 20 minutes later, one robe arrived. Another thing i forgot to mention, I had paid 250 for a deluxe King suite. There was nothing deluxe about it. It was the size of a normal room at your standard Howard Johnson. The decore was fun though. We both are not the type to complain, so we just made the best of what we had.
After getting ready, we went to eat at Osteria Via Stato(highly recommended). After the wonderful dinner we arrived back at the hotel at 8:30, the KAZ bar that the house of blues hotel is known for was closed for construction. They never informed us of this ever. No big deal, we had other options around the area. After we came back from a few coctails at a piano bar, we decidded to get room service. It was only 10:30 PM, and they claimed that the were'nt doing room service because of lack of occcupancy at the hotel(i wonder why?). The room service claimed that they were open EVERY NIGHT until 2:30 AM.
It might seem like a waste of time to complain about all of this, but being in the customer service field myself, i was appaled. NO lounge, no room service, we recieved nothing in our room that was promised. WASTE OF MONEY, with NO extra little perks to make up for it.
Funky ambiance, in a good way!. If you're looking for something different and are a modern free spirit, this place is for you. Hotel accommodations are not your typical white linens and floral-- this place has bright colors, funk and attitude. It reminds me of a hotel I stayed at in San Francisco. The room was clean and there were cute ammenities. And you can't beat the location and the nightlife nearby. Great for a Chicago stay!
Fun Hotel! Fun ambiance!. The hotel is very funky in their fun decor thru out. Great value on room rates. Great location too, close to attractions.
I would never stay here again!. I went to Chicago one year just for a fun weekend out. I decided to stay downtown which I haven't done for awhile. I decided to try out the House of Blues Hotel and it was a big mistake. I paid way too much for the room and the quality was horrible. For starters, my check-in was not very smooth, I got in my room and there were cigarette burns on the chairs. Yeah I paid like 300 bucks a night for this room and I shouldn?t have to sit on burnt chairs. I can kick myself for not saying anything; I probably would have received some sort of service because I did not get much of anything while I was there. I took a shower before going out again and there was some hair in the tub, the bathroom floor wasn?t the cleanest, I did not get my monies worth. I am glad for citysearch because I can finally say something. Don?t stay here, you would be better off somewhere else, really!
