In Short – A massive photo-mural of the namesake mountain site and a bar-top stereo cranking traditional music hint at Peru, but the room could be any cafeteria. The food is another story, like a grilled beef heart appetizer, or Ceviche de Pato, chopped duck ceviche with chilies and sweet potatoes. Local families stop in, many ordering less adventurously. The sirloin steak A La Parrilla (grilled) is very popular. – –

I took my friends to experience Peruvian food in Chicago and I was taken aback by the presentation of the food. I am Peruvian and I know exactly how Peruvian dishes should taste or look and this place was a total mishap. I would not recommend this place as a sample of how Peruvian food taste like.
- Pros: BYOB
- Cons: flavorless food

This restaurant is a great place to go out with your friends, family or to take your gf. Great intimate setting. We went there with a group of friends last saturday. Thank god we made a reservation, because it was full. We had a group of 12. The food is superb and is also affordable. The place is usually crowded on saturdays and fridays but after you sit down and try their food you'll know why. This place is also BYOB (no corkage fee) which is great and really cuts down on the expense.
- Pros: Will take reservation for 2 or for 20+
- Cons: None

I took 3 of my friends to machu picchu restaurant, we were coming from a conference meeting in downtown chicago. Am from Lima Peru, but live in Chicago. I wanted to show my friends little bit about peruvian food. There were a lot of things that i liked from this place: first the server that was helping us was peruvian, the music they played was also peruvian music and also one the owners came to ask how we were doing was also from peru. Just with that i really felt at home (Peru). We ordered anticuchos, papa a la huancaina, and fried calamaries to start. Then we order lomo saltado, ceviche mixto, lomo al pacifico y tallarines verdes. All my friends loved the food and the murals on the wall, they told me they were going to come back with the wifes and with a bottle of wine. Yeah its BYOB. All in all great experience, great food and great service. I could safely say this is the nicest peruvian restaurant in chicago.
- Pros: SERVICE, BYOB, PARKING
- Cons: NONE
The Details on Machu Picchu
What to Drink:
Most tables B.Y.O.B for now. But the Inca Cola---a regional cola product---is worth trying, too. It's spicier and sweeter than more commercial brands.
Parking:
Be careful of the side streets---they all require local permits, and Ashland's busy enough to discourage cruising for a spot. Ask about valet, though; they might be able to accommodate you.
