  1. We went into Cafe Descartes for a quick drink, the decor was cool, with drawings of various philosophers all around and delicious, large-looking pastries all along the counter.

Great coffee!

by madjennykidd at Citysearch

It might be a bit hard to find if you're not used to the area, but it's worth the search! I got a regular coffee with a shot of white chocolate in it(my regular drink wherever I go), and it was easily the best I've ever had! The staff was even polite and friendly! Next time I'm in Chicago, I won't even bother with another coffee shop!

  • Pros: Quality, service
  • Cons: hard to find!

Good Gellato Shake

by IceMouse at Citysearch

We went into Cafe Descartes for a quick drink, the decor was cool, with drawings of various philosophers all around and delicious, large-looking pastries all along the counter. We ordered a Gelatte, a scoop of ice cream with expresso, but then the kid behind the counter said "Are you sure you want that? I think it's gross". As strange as it was for him to say that, we just ordered the banana fudge gellato shake instead, which is just a milkshake. It was pretty thin, but it had small chunks of fudge in it and tasted pretty good. Not bad for a quick stop for a drink along N Michigan

  • Pros: Good Gellato Shake
  • Cons: Weird experience with the staff
