The Scene
Sidewalk seating and large French doors, opened to reveal breezes on warm days, beckon passersby; aggressively seasoned, comforting fare brings them back. Inside a casual cafe, marble-topped wine bar and deli with imported meats, cheeses and olives hint at the Puglian preparations in store. Trompe l'oeil vines wind around columns in the wood-trimmed, black and white photo-adorned dining rooms at the rear of the space.
The Food
Greek-inflected Italian fare from Italy's southeastern most region inspires the menu at this welcoming spot. Tender, fried calamari with complex, spicy tomato sauce and ribbons of homemade grilled sausage atop biting chicory-fava bean puree give way to silken risotto specked with sun-dried tomatoes, lobster and shrimp. A blanket of bubbly mozzarella belies savory Italian sausage and garlicky veal scallopine beneath; chicken saltimbocca-bundled with crisp prosciutto-reveals the pronounced flavor, and scent, of fresh sage. Mascarpone-topped, rum-soaked tiramisu delivers a lush sugar fix.
Hits: Servers are extremely friendly and genuinely concerned that diners enjoy their experience--so much so that they rush to the kitchen the moment a complaint about dishes is lodged.
Misses: While selections are full of flavor, on occasion they're too salty.

Waiter was nice, but getting the food out was very slow. Flys in the restaurant. Appetizer had beans in it that were hard. Pasta sauce with meat was waaayy too salty. And to top off this fine dining experience, there were screaming children at the table across from me.

I have been here twice now and have not been disappointed either times. The first time I sat outside on a hot summer day and enjoyed some white wine to take away from the humidity. I had the spinach salad with goat cheese, pine nuts, and cranberries with a wild cherry vinaigrette. Although the salad is normally a starter, it was satisfying as a whole meal. My boyfriend had the pasta with mussells. The forkful I had was delectable as well. The second time I came it was a bit colder so I sat inside but still near the front so I could watch the people walking by. There is a back room which might be cozy in the winter, I will have to check it out. I had the veal and my mom, who was visiting, had the raviolli a la vodka. We like to trade dishes halfway through so we each get to try different offerings on the menu. My veal was great but the ravioli was awesome. We had two pieces left over, and while not a full meal, we took them home because we were not letting them go to waste. The food is exceptional here. This is my favorite neighboorhood restaurant so far.
