The Scene – An undulating banquette leads into this sexy space anchoring the Hotel Orrington. Split into two areas, the L-shaped restaurant pops with details that don't overpower the room, including medusa-like lighting fixtures that snarl from the ceiling and bright red parsons chairs positioned for people watching. Ambient clubtracks flow, an apropos soundtrack for the twentysomethings who wander in. – – The Food – Signature rolls boast clever names, but common ingredients--shrimp tempura, spicy mayo and masago--muddle uniqueness. My favorite Sushi Place

I disagree with the the previuos review. I have been a regular customer here since they have opened. Each time I go( probably once or twice a month) it just keeps on getting better. Went there last week sat at the sushi bar and just started talking to the chefs. The next thing you know, they were creating things that were not even on the menu. I have some hamachi with jalapenoes and a little house ponzu. Tasted great and then out of nowhere the maki chef made me a roll with similar ingredients.
Also, service is always very prompt and I am always greeted in the most pleasant way.
By the way, real sushi Connoisseurs judge by its sashimi and nigiri. Not the the Americanized water downed version of sushi that is maki
- Pros: Good drinks fresh fish and friendly staff
- Cons: Price

Just got back from dinner at Blu, the sushi restaurant in the Orrington Hotel in Evanston. I'm a big fan of Japanese food, and really enjoy sushi in particular, so I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. Despite the fancy decor and high prices, I was very disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. The sushi tasted terrible, especially the sushi rolls, which had some strange chili and sesame seasoning that was just not appropriate for Japanese cuisine. If you are looking for good sushi - avoid this place!
- Pros: Nice ambiance
- Cons: Poor tasting food, especially the sushi
