What People Are Saying About Bottom Lounge

In Short – The mish-mash brick and stone façade is under the El tracks, so the bold lettering is easily missed. Glass doors open to a large space, mostly painted flat black, with a center row of upholstered booths and a warm wood bar-odd details in the industrial setting. Doors behind the bar lead to another stark performance space. Upstairs houses the "Volcano Room," a sprawling rum-focused tiki space with a bar-equipped deck. Live music--from big names to barely pro acts--dominate the entertainment, but food and a bar scene don't go unnoticed. – – Photo by Jasmin…

Great place to see local bands . . .

by JaySeuffert

The Fulton area was once considered a great place to buy a prawn or a steak wrapped in newspaper. Now you can reach a good night spot too. Only a few blocks from Victor Hotel (which isn't really a hotel) and a lot less swankier, I found this place this weekend and will go back. The ATM literally ran out of money and I had to wait for them to refill it. I tried to look inside when it was opened up to see if there was anything lying around. The coat girl asked me what I was doing. I told her I sell ATM's and had never seem that particular model.

  • Pros: Lots of space, a bar in every room for quick access.
  • Cons: in an area of town without much hype

The Details on Bottom Lounge

Know Before You Go:

Cover can be waived if you're just coming for the bar(s) or a bite---bouncers outside will direct you accordingly. Another set of doormen will lighten your wallet inside for music.

The Extras:

Besides an excellent live music program and decent menu, The Volcano Room also hosts tastings and lectures on rum and other spirits. Not very rock and roll, but welcome no less.

Parking:

Lake is a goldmine for free and usually open spots. Do be careful though not to inadvertently block any loading or garage zones.

When to Go:

Weekends---but call ahead first or check the site to see who's playing. If it's someone big, expect a zoo. Weeknight performances are lower profile but can be fun departures from the usual.

Where to Sit:

The booths in the main space can make you feel like you're on a stage, which you may or may not like. The Volcano Room however has dozens of lounge options that afford a little more privacy.
