Editorial Review for Harry Caray's Tavern – by Valerie Moloney
In Short
It's fitting that Harry Caray's Restaurant Group chose the Cubs home opener (2008) as its first day of service. The decor blends a lively sports bar atmosphere with the look of a classic tavern with a mosaic tile floor, pressed tin ceiling and lots of TVs for keeping score. Museum-quality baseball memorabilia and other artifacts plaster the walls, while people watching turns outdoors, where a patio enables gawking at the rowdy fans.

Insider Tips
Fun FactThe bar is 60-foot-6-inches, the distance from the pitcher's mound to home plate.
On the MenuClassics from Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse will be available, including Chicken Vesuvio and Dutchie's Salad. But the burger bar might be more fitting baseball food, even if the patties are gussied up with fancy ingredients.
The ExtrasThe Holy Cow! Burger allows diners to design their own creations from proteins like Tallgrass beef and venison, preparations such as peppercorn-crusted and garnishes that include sauteed wild mushrooms, pretzel rolls and Jack daniel's barbecue sauce.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. GO TO THE CUBBY BEAR! If you are the slightest cubs fan, don't come near this bar. Here is the rundown of our experience: Got there, seated, asked for drink specials: No drink specials during home games. So we got beers at $5-$8 apiece, figured out what we wanted to eat. Told the waitress what we wanted, only to find out that 1/3 of the menu is not availalbe on home game days. We then had to refigure out what we wanted to eat, ordered, food was pretty good. Then the Cubs started to play, except the HARRY CAREY bar doesn't play the sound loud enough to hear whats going on during the game, not to mention out of about 10 TVs in my sight, the Cubs were on TWO!!! Then, the waitress tells us she's going to take out our table during the 6th inning to make room for people leaving Wrigley Field, who haven't even been apying customers. Not to mention she didn't let us know this to begin with! Finally we had enough and left, went down to the Cubby Bear bar. IT was amazing! Every TV had the cubs on, true cubs fans all around you, plenty of room to sit and you could hear the game perfectly. Don't waste your time with this scam of a restaurant. Harry Carey would roll in his grave if he knew how they were exploiting his name and his love for the Chicago Cubs.

If you're the kind of person who doesn't mind spending $5.00 on a Miller Light and a whole lot more money on the same kind of food you can get across the street at the 711 convenience store, than this is the place for you! Not only are the bartenders sloppily drunk to the point to where they need to struggle to open your bottle of beer, they’ll also charge you four times the price of your original tab at the end of the night! However, if you are the kind of person who expects what they pay for, classy folks and friendly reliable service, you’ll find none of that here!
Pros: Outside seating
Cons: Bartenders were drunk, poor service and quality
