Editorial Review for Rebel Bar & Grill – by Fred Schlatter
In Short
The name might be a nod toward breaking the rules-Wrigleyville is strictly sports bar territory, typically resistant to fancified versions of the genre. Owners here are smart though, retaining cheap domestic beer, plenty of plasmas and a tightly controlled and familiar playlist. Deviations include garish red paint, snazzy vintage sports photos and an undeniable clubby vibe achieved with dim lighting and a (weekend) DJ who spins stuff dangerously out-of-bounds for conservative sports fans. The young, stylish crowd doesn't think twice about ordering Czech "Rebel" beer and Panko-crusted chicken fingers, even in the shadow of the Friendly Confines.

Insider Tips
When to GoObviously, game days are mobbed, but there's something about the layout of this place that makes it seem more manageable. Arrive early and stake out some real estate opposite the bar at one of the comfy bench highboys.
What to EatThe menu does the usual rounds with burgers wings and salads, but steps things up with mini corndogs and pulled-pork and Chicago beef sliders.
Where to SitA bank of upholstered benches stretched across the wall are particularly good for catching the game---or people watching, if that's more your thing.
Know Before You GoLike any other bar in the hood that knows what's up, Rebel opens at 10am on Cubs home game days.
