What People Are Saying About The Joynt

In Short – Approaching The Joynt feels illicit, what with suited bouncers and subtle signage, but it's a fleeting impression. The front room is appointed with gold carpet, flagstone and a comfortable rectangular bar. The effect is residential, like someone's pimped-out basement. Next door is a piano bar--literally a bar, a few highboys and a 40-plus-crowd bopping along to familiar covers. Downstairs attracts a livelier, dancing crowd, drawn, perhaps, by the serious light show (and decent sound). Yet another room adjoins, this one purpose-built for chilling--cushy chairs, low tables and…

Too Cold for Comfort

by Mimmi at Citysearch

A group of us went to an event at the Joynt and had a fairly good time. The separate rooms are very nice and suitable to patron likings. The staff were great, courteous and attentive, except for a rude Latin bartender in the piano room.

Overall we enjoyed the Jazz band, except it was to cold and we had to leave in search for heat. Burr!!

We heard Sunday’s are very nice and we will definitely go back for another Joynt experience.

Boring and dead

by ralphwallace at Citysearch

I know Thursday's isn't the hottest night, but this place was dead, dead, dead. I often go out on Thursday and the places I usually go have a good crowd. I stopped here to check it out and my mood was instantly dampened by the emptiness of the place. I decided to leave immediately as life is too short to waste on a dead end.

  • Cons: empty and boring

Cooler than a Polar Bears Toenails... (but not in the good way)

by djarine at Citysearch

If you like partying outside in Chicago when it's below zero, you'll love this place. Otherwise, if you are warm blooded and sane go to a place that has a functional heating system. The design of this place is horrible. While the bar itself is beautiful, the door is in a terrible place. Every time the door opens (non-stop) a rush of cold air fills the place. I went downstairs and to the side room, both were abnormally cold. not just cool, or chilly-- I mean freezing. Me and my friends could literally see our breath when we were talking. What a shame, to be such a nice bar they should really invest in a system that keeps it comfortable in the winter. I could not enjoy myself at all because I was so cold. I love live music and piano bars so I may go back, but definitely not until it is warm.

  • Pros: Cool Place for summer partying
  • Cons: Too Cold in the winter

The Details on The Joynt

When to Go:

Despite the size, the layout can seem a little claustrophobic when crowded. Opt for a weeknight---but later, say after 10, as it's not really an after-work spot.

Fun Fact:

The Joynt is by the same group behind Gold Coast fave Jilly's. This will be evident in a) the older, sport-coat-wearin dudes, and b) the women who love them.

Where to Sit:

The front room is actually the more comfortable space, but for some serious people watching secure one of the tables surrounding the dance floor.

Know Before You Go:

Weekends get pretty busy, and a cover can crop up.
