In Short – Fans of adjoining 720 Club will be relieved--and those who have never been, none the wiser--to discover that this River North club is sandwiched between floors two and four of the popular Latin music destination. But the vibe here differs; house music reigns, with big-name DJs ascending a massive altar-like booth where they crank a mighty sound system. Stairs hug one wall, leading to a lofted bar-equipped VIP space boasting terrific views of the action. While the addition of tables means bottle service, the young crowd mostly quenches with beer and vodka drinks. –…
WORST CLUB IN CHICAGO!!
by Klubbgoer
arrived at Religion at 11pm because the text message i recieved offered free entry before 11 and discounted entry until midnight. The promotors purposely kept people waiting outside past 11 o'clock to avoid letting the large crowd in for free. The club advertises four levels to party, but the first level was cordoned off and they weren't allowing people in that area at all. It took me 30 minutes to valet my vehicle because the valet service was very slow and i sincerely doubt they even had a lot to park the cars, I'm quite sure they were just taking everyone's $15 and parking your vehilcle wherever they could find spaces on the street near the club. I waited in line for ONE AND A HALF HOURS only to be told when I reached the front of the line that the club was at capacity and the 100+ individuals waiting outside would not get in, which seems impossible because it was only 1 am and the club is open until 5. The security outside the club began to push the people on the sidewalk and curse at us all to leave. I was not reimbursed for the valet service even though I never got inside the club. I WILL NEVER GO TO RELIGION AGAIN and i urge you all to spend your money elsewhere. THIS IS THE WORST CLUB IN CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very trendy place howeva...I'm not cool with guys going into a club with gym shoes and T's with any type of graphics. Not even if they are fake Armani shirts. That Euro sneaker and T look does not go well at a club. They're should be rules and I expect that at a sports bar not at a club downtown. So get it together at Religion. Plus I noticed they turned away minorities with similar wear and let in the Caucasian males with no problem. YES BOUNCERS I SAW AND HEARD YOU TURN THEM AWAY AND ALSO GIVE THEM RULES. I WAS WAITING FOR MY CAR JACK A** AND WITNESSES THE ENTIRE THING. MANAGEMENT SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND NEEDS TO STEP IT UP.
Music doesn?t get good until around midnight, but then it's pretty good. The place is decorated awesome and has a great view. The stairs how ever makes me a little nervous. Alcohol and long a** stairs spells disaster and law suits. Elevators!!! They need to do what Vision and Excalibur do and let us cross from 720's to Religion.
Pipe Organ DJ Booth?
by Sarah2Go
I went there last weekend with a few of my girlfriends after dinner. We got right in and the place was really crowded. The tall ceilings make it seem a lot bigger and give it a very different look than any other place we have been. I really like the dance music they play because it's not the same stuff you hear in places every single weekend. My girlfriends and I enjoy the loft where we can dance and look down on the crowd and not have to be bothered by creepy guys. We did have to wait a bit for drinks but I guess that?s normal. Best of all I think is that the DJ booth looks like some kind of funky pipe organ. I am definitely going back for my sister?s birthday.
- Pros: Great Energy and very cool space
- Cons: Sometimes there was a line to get drinks
The Details on Religion
Parking:
Valet is reasonable, but the temptation to circle just one more time is great. If you choose the latter, think about making the haul from Chicago Ave.
Know Before You Go:
Bigger-name DJs will no-doubt bring the crowds, so call ahead if you are planning a weekend visit. Also, the vibe here is pretty casual in comparison to nearby clubs, but bouncers will still call you out for wearing tennis shoes and hats.
The Extras:
Management says there is no cut-through to 720. There used to be, so presumably there still is one. Good to know if you want to shift between house and Latin music.
When to Go:
Thursdays are a good bet, but that doesn't mean no cover; it's $20, unless there's a big-name show--then it might be more.
Where to Sit:
Get a seat upstairs. Plunk down for a bottle, or just smooth-talk your way through a stairway bouncer. The roof-height perspective is worth the hassle, possibly the money.
