In Short – Like cherry red lips on milky white skin, this space needs only a few bold strokes to make a statement. Its black-and-white jacquard wallpaper pops but never overpowers the globe-shaped sconces and monochrome photos of the French movie sire. The business crowd gets the star treatment from black-vested servers who hustle orders to the linen tabletops. The bar from former gastropub BB's remains, but the food targets classics like steak fries, nicoise salad and madame's surf and turf burger, instead of pub grub. – – Photo by Jasmin Shah
Don't host a party here
by christyspahn
I have been a regular customer at Madame Tartine?s since it was BB?s. I was planning a Barack Obama fundraiser and asked what kind of party package they could put together. They offered to donate a keg of Stella and encouraged me to extend our happy hour into a debate watch party. We agreed that that was a great idea and promoted the party as such to our friends, co-workers and fellow Obama supporters.
The day of the event I arrived at Mme. Tartine?s to set up and Pascal, the General Manager, introduced himself and explained that they would not be donating a keg of Stella because their distributors could not be affiliated with a political party. More, they would not allow our guests to watch the debate in the restaurant as it may disturb other patrons.
I asked why none of this had been communicated to me prior to the party and the General Manager flippantly said, ?What difference would that have made?? I responded that I would have had the party at another venue. Clearly, this is exactly why he did not tell me in advance of the party that they reneged on their offer. I asked to speak with Donnie Kruse, the owner, since he was the person I negotiated our party package with, and he was conveniently unavailable.
Not standing by their commitment was dishonest and underhanded. I will never do business with them again.
Over-priced

I dined with a few friends. The general consensus is the food was bland and over-priced. Service was slow as well. We were checked on only twice and had to hunt someone down for our ticket. I do not recommend for good french fare.
Cute French bistro in River North!

I've been to Madame Tartine for the opening party and for lunch a few times, and I've had great food and drinks every time. The sidewalk patio is the perfect place to eat lunch, and the space feels a lot cozier compared to the giant restaurants on the same street. The drink menu is definitely a huge highlight - they have lots of options of wine, champagne, and specialty drinks. The Madame Tartini - a mix of vodka, champagne, and sorbet - is amazing!
