In Short – It's a big deal when an esteemed chef leaves his prime city nests (Boka and Landmark) for the suburbs, but a good restaurant is a good restaurant regardless of location. Here in a Burr Ridge mall, Chef Guisepe Scurato whips up some surprises. Flavors pop from start to finish, like a Spanish-spiced crab cake with zings of citrus and grapefruit, sweet potato gnocchi stuffed with duck confit and grilled liver with fried onions, bacon, parsley salad, ketchup and red wine syrup. The interior could almost be mistaken for a downtown restaurant with sexy horseshoe booths and amber…

So-So food, horrible service

by DennisR at Citysearch

The food was only fair to good, not very good or great. And this was the high point. Service was beyond slow, our waiter seemed inexperienced and untrained and forgot about us for 20 minutes at a time. It took them 45 min to take our food orders and 2 hours (!) to serve us and that was only after I walked to the front and demanded to see the manager. The owner came out, apologized that the kitchen was backed up but I asked why he or someone else never came to our table to explain that. They just hid. Then the owner gave me his card and offered to give us a free bottle of wine. I explained we already had plenty to drink we needed FOOD! The owner did end up cutting 50% off the bill but only after long, tense discussions. Bottom line is - spend your money elsewhere. They won't be in business long anyway.

  • Pros: Nice decor, varied menu
  • Cons: Abismal service

Typical fare and bad service converge to make Topaz an unsatisfying dining experience.

by youmakemesick at Citysearch

FACT 1: Topaz serves cuisine that is ordinary and unimaginative. FACT 2: The service at Topaz is abysmal (though the latino servers i've had there showed much more pride and care in the execution of service, that their "caucasian counterparts". I hate to make racial statements like this, but for some reason it seems like the later servers mentioned in the afformentioned claim seem to just not give a (#*t. FACT 3: If you really want tremendous cuisine, make the trip down to Lockport to get more than your money's worth at Tallgrass, a truly excellent dining mecca. And if it's true much trouble to make the trip, at least head over to restaurants like Vie or Courtright's, your next best options.

Sorry to be so frank, but, as they say, the truth can hurt.

Peace.

  • Pros: Great interior
  • Cons: inconsistent service, ordinary, boring cuisine.
