Delicious brunch!. Searching out new places for exciting new brunch experiences is something I do almost every weekend. I stumbled upon the new Bull & Bear brunch about a month ago. If you have yet to visit Bull & Bear for a meal (instead of catching the latest game on one of their 10 plus t.v.'s), I highly encourage it. But try the brunch. Items like breakfast tacos with chorizo and cilantro creme, and home made pop tarts (a savory & a sweet) created new weekly and served in in a toaster are my favorites.

Seeing that the Pajama Jam brunch there is fairly new, the crowds are minimal to non existent, so try out this amazing spot before it gets overly trendy and packed!

Great, strong, big drinks. The best thing about the Bull and Bear is not the creative bull-horn and bear-print logo, nor the under-dressed, over-fed waitresses nor even the beer-tap at the table. It is the consistency and value of its food. Although the table-tap is pretty ingenious and whoever takes the next step by offering table-side catheterization should win a Nobel Prize.

This afternoon, we were treated to an onion soup (the French kind, as the menu helpfully clarifies), a market salad, and the trio of Philly mini-sandwiches (not that mini) for less than the cost of a Gibson’s entrée. And the best part? The soup actually came before the entrees! This is not nit-picky. There have been an uncanny number of meals where the hot-liquid course has either come simultaneously with the main, after it, or not at all. We always say: “we’re going to start with …” to make it as unambiguous as possible without being rude. No matter. Over 50% of meals find the soup timed incorrectly. So points to the big mammal bar for getting it right.

Now, all that remains it to get it great.

Onions should be caramelized before being thrown into the soup and if the croc is not put into a hot oven before coming to the table, the cheese just ends up gooey instead of deliciously burnt. When the soup costs $9 (same as Bistro Zinc) these steps had better be taken.

More than balancing out the soup is the 12oz. bloody mary for $5. Perfectly spicy and with that seasoned salt on the rim that I love to watch people lick at while trying to look sexy. The mini-Phillies were great too and so was the market salad. Only, what the sam-hill is a “market” salad? There’s no market anywhere around here and if there were, I’m not sure its produce would be thawed in time to still be fresh. But overall, the terrific lunch was so filling that I didn’t even need my little tiny 4PM snack of Portillo’s hot dog, beef and fries. A rare bonus.

Best Sangria. I have spent a lot of time at B&B, I prefer to go during the day on the weekends because it seems like a more relaxed crowd. Anyways, the Stone Lotus boys have done a great job with their newest nightlife venture. The place is decorated beautifully, and the food is a lot better than other similar bars in the area.

I would strongly recommend anyone to try it out if you haven't already. Everyone I have taken here has really loved it and enjoyed themselves. Greg is one of the bartenders and he really is the greatest bartender in Chicago. He suggests new drinks that you may like to try- He recently suggested that we try their sangria and MAN is it strong! The fruit they use has been soaked in alcohol for several days. I would recommend this drink to anyone looking to get over whatever pity party they are throwing this week.

All in All- Great Place.

Great Atmosphere. I recently went here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with a friend. We had only inteded on staying to eat, but ended up staying much longer because we were really enjoying ourselves. It was a really great crowd for lunch, the music was at just the right level, our salads were amazing, and our bartender was one of the most friendly people we have met in awhile. I can't speak for what its like at night because I haven't been, but it really did make for one of the more pleasant days I have had in Chicago in awhile. For people who are hesitant to try it out because the owners also own Stone Lotus, I would strongly encourage you to stop by. I go to both clubs, lounges, and bars and this is really a great place to take someone who resists the club scene. The atmosphere is beautiful (specifically the lighting, flowers, and furniture), and there was an unsually attractive crowd during lunch time. The other really great thing I want to mention about this place was that there is so much natural lighting so you don't feel like your in a basement, so during the day it was really sunny and well lit which just makes for an overall more positive experience. Anyways, I rarely write reviews but I thought I'd share because my friend and I really enjoyed ourselves :)

The sports bar label gets a workout here, stretching to cover duties as singles bar, nightclub, lounge and, yes, a place to catch the game.. A slim sign subtly announces the corner entrance, a detail that contrasts sharply with the typical fray of doormen, ropes and a jostling line of would-be patrons outside. Inside is more hectic still; finance-looking guys, ties loosened, and women dressed for the club vie for attention among more casual folks, sports fans and the odd older group. A contemporary, masculine tavern look is achieved with exposed brick, miles of dark wood, supple leather and delicate clusters of glass pendants, a vibe that's reflected in the souped-up bar food and import-heavy beer selection.
