“While it usually takes 15 minutes for a full bikini wax at my normal salon, this took well over an hour.”
Thourough but it took a loong time.
I realize I may be spoiled. Most of the year I live in Los Angeles and have the luxury of visiting Pink Cheeks for all of my waxing needs. However, when I'm traveling I often find myself experimenting with and sometimes failing at finding decent services elsewhere.
I went to Trim based on reviews from other websites. While it usually takes 15 minutes for a full bikini wax at my normal salon, this took well over an hour. Trim uses a special hard wax for the labia area which is an entirely weird and different sensation. Their reasoning is that it, um, melds to our lady parts and rips off less skin than the soft wax and linen strips. It's not for the faint of heart, as your legs are twisted into a wide-open pretzel which may make some ladies blush. The other problem with the hard wax is that it does not come off with one tug - it will take 2 to 3 pulls to get it off of you which hurts a little more than usual.
While I was trying to find my mental happy place, the technician chatted me up and worked on the bikini line area with soft wax. The thing that killed me is how many wood applicators she went through - yes, a waxing salon should be clean and not share items between clients, however, she used a new applicator for every drop of wax she put on me, which I thought was very wasteful.
All in all, I left with a moderately painless Brazilian wax that was well done. I won't go back because to repeat the hard wax experience any time soon.
Citysearch Editorial Review. This luxurious, waxing-focused salon in Bucktown makes the dreaded chore of hair removal a little more glam.
