“The underground was fun until they would not let my boyfriend come in to the club, "He was on the list for my friends private engagement party" Well if you are on the list that does not even matter.”
“liked the music, drinks, and crowd for sure, but the people that work there think they're actually Billy Dec.”
“The service is usually good and they actually serve food (I had mini burgers) until 3am.”
“The DJ is not good for the caliber of club that this place is trying to portray.”
“upscale drinks and great service.”
“We left and went to O'Calahan's up the street instead and enjoyed great service along with an apparent huge savings over the Underground.”
Bury it.. Well, I don't get what the hype is about. You walk into the bar directly into the "dance" floor so if you want to dance you have to continually deal with incoming traffic. The bar is way in the corner so you have to navigate past the dancers and general standing patrons to a little nook that is crowded because there's just no good way to get out of anyone's way. The seating seems to be set up to watch people dance/enter - like there should have been a red carpet and papparazzi. Stayed only a short time - all of it disappointing.
...on blast!! (part 2). Okay, I may be a little angry but this experience was incredible (not in a good way). Some of what follows has been stated on another site but the experience was such that it merits a repeat. I work in the industry as both a DJ and security and decided to check out the club, especially since one of my good friends was DJing for the night. I approached the door, informed them that I was on the DJ list. After a few times of scanning me/looking me up and down (although I was dressed very appropriately), they responded with not knowing who the DJ was (although he has DJed there since it was taken over by the former owner of Le Passage). Then I informed them and showed them my card from the club I work at (FBL), they ignored that and told me that it was a private party (although seven guys that were poorly dressed walked in without so much a glance at a list). I forgot mention previously that another individual who may have been a manager also did the scan "thing" and acted as if he did not know who the DJ was (who was on my cell phone with exact same music that was playing in the club). Then I decided to inform them that I would buy a bottle (just to see what their response would be). They repeated the scanning of me and the private party "line." I guess they passed their "darkness" quota for the evening. This is unfortunate because the owner is well respected and treats all that has come into his establishments pretty decently (from previous experience). If they will treat people who work in the industry in this way, that was a guest of the DJ, arrived prior 10:45pm, and was willing to purchase outrageously priced liquor (I don't drink by the way) then you may not stand a chance. This has made me want re-examine my own behavior securing clubs to make sure that I will never be this way. Thus the reason why I am on here putting them on blast!! (for a second time)
No. pretty sure the good reviews for this site have been written by the staff. This plaec isn't horrible or anything. Just WATCH OUT> Carry cash. Pay attention to prices. Lots of un-needed greed. Lots of wanna be, star screwers.... which isn't always a bad thing :P
Just partyin!. Great place, lots of women, guys bring your girls and bring your money! I dont know if this was a normal thing but it was so hot! Come on Dec turn on the A/C! It was hotter than 400 hells! I had a table with 2 bottles and 4 people drinking on it.... I think I was able to drink so much because I was sweating out as I drank! Other than that great music, good atmosphere!
Nice club, but... Nice club. However, I had the same experience as in the review above posted on 06/11/2007 by Vindicator. After a night here, I realized in my credit card bill that they "upped" my tip. (My original tip was already pretty good.) Going cash is a good idea up until management maybe reads these and does something about it.
Thursday nights, Celebrities, Great Service. LOVE IT! Thursdays are always a blast. Last week I went to a Playboy Party on Thursday and hung out with Jeremy Piven on Saturday. I always see the owner, Billy Dec hanging out at a table. The service is usually good and they actually serve food (I had mini burgers) until 3am. It's not easy getting in if you don't know someone so don't come in enormous groups and guys, bring girls. Sometimes it gets really crowded but if you have a table, you're set for the night.
Check Your Bill, Or Just Don't Go. After spending an evening at Underground, a friend and I received an outrageous tab that was not itemized. Rather than squabble, I tipped almost 20% on my portion and wrote-off the experience. When my credit card bill arrived, I discovered that either our waitress or the establishment added another $74 to my tip. Don't go here but, if you do, pay in cash. Good luck.
A National Bar in Chicago?. Wait. This ain't right. There's a rumor of a 'tops-in-the-country-bar' hiding somewhere on the northside of Chicago, calling itself a 'tops-in-the-country bar'. It'll never work. Not in Chicago. Not enough tourists to support that kind of place, and 2nd City natives will be smart enuf to keep it local. I'll bet their beef sandwiches make you gag, and the cab drivers tell everyone they can't find it because the owners are too cheap to buy a sign. The Corner Inn sounds like a better spot to spend Friday night to me.
Alot of girls.... which would be great if I wasn't one. After hearing about this "hidden, hard to find" place, my friend and I set out to find it. I'm not really a club person generally, but whatever. We wern't on the list, but being two pretty good looking girls, got in with only "half" cover. The rest of our friends (all pretty girls) got in fine an hour or so after us. Which leads me to the observation that the place was filled with girls. It had to be like 70-30 ratio. And while I don't go out for the exclusive reason to meet guys, it's at least nice to look at them. By 2 am I noticed an influx in blond skinny fake bimbo types. On the positive side, everybody who worked there was extremely nice and polite, and the service was pretty good. They played fun music (which to me means not the techno junk without words) and the decor was cool.
Not as cool as it sounds.... Don't even bother, this place is a joke. The only thing that is "underground" about it is that it literally is in the basement of a building. I think the firehouse across the street is a "hotter" place to hang out...unless of course you like dancing to the Jackson FIve or Bon Jovi...what's so "underground" about that? They let a lot of old people in and leave all the hot young guys waiting outside meanwhile girls are pouring out of the place b/c OLD men are really not that fun to hang out with....o but wait the owners are old, so it's all their friends that get in....don't waste your money or an outfit for this place!
