“The waiter was attentive and knowledagble of the menu.”
“So disappointing for such an expensive and well-known staple of Chicago restaurants.”
“The service was good although it was a bit slow probably because of the crowd.”
AWFUL !!!.
Although we'd made reservations, we had to wait 20 minutes.
Excellent dishes .. spoiled by the waitress: impolite, rude. + 1 Receptionist sleeping behind the counter, the other chatting !?!
I was so sorry to pay 130 for 2.
Never again, but we'll try Roy's in NY or Hawai ...cause the experience in Chicago was so bad that it's almost unbelievable.
Deeelicious - luvs it!!!!. Hats off to the Chef !!!!!!! The food was SPOT ON! Best Resturant EVER! The ribs just fall off the bone and melt in your mouth, best ribs I ever had. Great drinks, appetizers, main course, and deserts. Service was fast and friendly. Decor was impressive including celing to floor glass wall wine celler. The only problem I had from Roy's is that I can not stop craving their chocolate souffle, mmm just writting this makes me want to go get one right now. We had a group of six, Roy's now has six loyal customers for life.
An excellent dining option in Chicago..
Having eating at far too many restaurants for business and pleasure I feel I have gotten pretty good and knowing when I've found a gem: and Roy's is one of them.
Excellent dining experience with everything being enjoyable. Every bite of every course was great.
Very good service too.
Out of the Ordinary!. My boyfriend and I dined at Roy's before watching a play in Downtown and it was a great experience. The waiter was attentive and knowledagble of the menu. I definitely recommend couples to go. Food is tasty and has good presentation. It's worth trying out for those who have not went to Roy's.
outstanding !!!!!!. We went to Roys Chicago celebrating our first anniversary, we were seated at the chef counter and we could see the Pastry Chef Alfreddo in action....He is really an artist.!!!.and he made and special dessert sampler for us...Our best anniversary gift !!!!...The food was great, and the drinks the best....Great time at Roys , and the best seat in front of Pastry Chef Alfreddo . Our server Rich told us everything about the menu, he was great a lot of knowledge and great service.
Sophisticated Hawaiian-fusion restaurant gives Chicagoans an upscale taste of the islands..
The Scene
The theme may be Hawaiian, but don't expect leis and piped-in Don Ho records--this roomy River North space is sophisticated and classy, with upholstered chairs and banquettes, crimson-stained tabletops, and contemporary, island-inspired art. Big picture windows open up the room and let the city in, and the space buzzes with corporate diners and couples on dates.
The Food
Yamaguchi's "Hawaiian Fusion" cuisine blends the exotic flavors and spices of the islands with fresh local ingredients. Start with the dim sum-style canoe, an appetizer sampler including Szechuan style ribs, spicy coconut shrimp and a patty of tuna tartare. Among entrees, Roy's signature blackened ahi is a kick--lightly seared, buttery tuna in a soy-mustard butter that slowly tightens its spicy grip on the back of your throat. In contrast, macadamia nut-crusted whitefish is soothingly mellow. Yamaguchi even manages to make poi--taro root paste, a bland Hawaiian tradition--taste good, using just a hint of it as a condiment for tender honey-mustard beef short ribs with mashed potatoes.
Outstanding!!!!. We can't say enough good things about this fine restaurant. The food, service, drinks and value are all top notch at Roy's. The "Hawaiian Martini" is a must for all. I highly recommend the Mahi Mahi. Don't miss this island paradise in the "Windy City!"
Good for family dining. We went to this place because we thought it would be another hip place to try but it turned out we were wrong. It was more like a family restaurant because there were a lot of kids dining. The food were great. We tried the steak, which was good but the fish were something else. They melted in your mouth. I am not a big fish fan but this place might change my mind. The service was good although it was a bit slow probably because of the crowd. The decor of the place was good and we had good distance between tables. The dessert was just ok.
Excellent. Great location! Interesting food - all around an excellent evening! Our waiter was REALLY weird - he spend too much time at the table and had zero charisma, but everything else was so good that it didn't matter.
Felt like I was in Maui. I have been to the Roy's in Kahana, Maui and the one in Chicago is exactly the same. The hawaiian fish, Opakapaka was fabulous!!!! It tasted as if it was caught a few hours earlier. And the souffle' was to die for!!!
