I much prefer Karyn's Cooked over Karyn's Raw. Don't expect any delicious items like French fries or pasta here, but at least the food isn't served cold and raw like her counterpart resto.
Love the takeout options - vegan blueberry bars with almond butter, Kambucha, cashew sour cream (yep), herbal remedies and detox aids...
Best restaurant in Chicago. Cozy, warm and fun staff, amazing dishes that are dependable.
You'll never miss the meat!. I'm not a vegetarian and I love the food at Karyn's! I took my husband, who refuses to eat vegetarian, and he can't wait to go back. The food is fresh, very flavorful, well seasoned. The service is exceptional. Dining in is great, the dining room is actually quite roomy (which is unusual in Chicago) but it can get pretty noisy at lunch time. The dessert menu is also awesome.
Always amazed. Every time I got here I'm amazed how good it is! I'm vegetarian, but have not missed the dairy. The second time my boyfriend and I went there, they recognized us from the first time we went. Now, that's great customer service! Even the desserts are wonderful (dairy-free) treats. It's a great place for special occasions. I found the prices very reasonable for the quality of food you are getting. Try it, you'll like it!
Cooked vegan fare and baked goods are the main features at this health-conscious River-North cafe..
In Short
Hidden among other storefronts--mostly galleries--this spot beckons passers-by with its serene decor. Maple and Asian touches like the infinity waterfall set a relaxing tone, while the luscious-looking cakes on display and the semi-exposed kitchen mean business. Health-conscious locals frequent the long room for vegan appetizer specialties like soy-cheese pizza and faux-meat entrees like the sloppy joe, featuring slow-cooked ground soy-proteins and spaghetti and "meatballs"--again made from soy product.
A rare gem. There aren't that many vegetarian restaurants in Chicago, so finding a vegan restaurant near downtown was a pleasant surprise. I'm not too keep on the raw food diet, but this one offers a great variety of hot cooked vegan dishes. Prices are a bit high but the food is well worth it.
