Chef Geno Bahena is almost as well known for his restaurant wanderlust as he is for his authentic moles, but just taste one--say, duck breast in green pumpkinseed mole--and you won’t care where he’s cooking, as long as he’s cooking mole. Thankfully, Bahena sticks to what he knows best, with a selection of dishes featuring the special sauce in red, black, green and white incarnations, plus appetizers like shrimp with a toasted garlic sauce and Mexican mushroom soup. The sit-back-and-relax atmosphere of cushy red leather booths and soft lighting is perfect for a date or a small gathering, with conversation-friendly Latin music setting the mood. Let’s just hope Bahena sticks around this time.
