Since I work and play in River North
and live on the north side, I love venturing outside my day-to-day perimeter. Taxim is worth the craziness of Bucktown/Lincoln Park. If nothing else for the quaint atmosphere and best grilled octopus in town.
Greek fare with an unorthodox twist in Wicker Park..
This ain’t Greek Town. Don’t expect flaming cheese or rowdy shouts of “opah!” at this sexy spot. What you can expect: decked-out scenesters lounging on dark wood benches and digging into seasonal hot and cold mezze like charcoal-roasted eggplant with tahini and pine nuts. Succulent, spit-roasted duck, zinged by a bright pomegranate glaze, finds its way into a creative reinterpretation of that most recognizable Greek dish, the gyro. Nothing less polished would feel appropriate in the dramatic, high-ceilinged room, romantically lit by dozens of intricate Byzantine brass lights. Three round, low copper and wood tables in the front window offer a more casual ambiance.
