The Zhang family, brains behind the coveted Rise in Lakeview and Shine Morida in Lincoln Park, have created a fresh new sushi restaurant. With a great location on the corner of Ontario and Rush streets, Sushi Taiyo delivers great dishes that sushi lovers and non-sushi lovers alike will adore. Executive Chef Min San creates cutting edge Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is modern with clean lines, minimalism and walls of windows; yet traditional with dark wood floors and wood beams throughout. With great prices and a large menu, it is hard not to find something you love. The menu features hot and cold small plates, soups, big plates (great for non-sushi lovers), Nigiri & Sashimi, as well as traditional and signature Maki rolls. The fully stocked bar also features a huge selection of Sake. …
Bad Valet, rude manager. Food was good, manager was a B**** and could not be botherd to deal with our valet issue after our party spent over 400 dollars on dinner. We were sent on a scavenger hunt for our car keys for almost over an hour.
Hi! This is the manager! You forget something? After your dinner, you left FOR 5 HOURS, and didn't tell us OR the valet cause you didn't want to pay a valet fee elsewhere. When you returned, we had been CLOSED for an HOUR, so you were LUCKY I was there- or you couldn't have gotten your car at all! I did you a favor, and the thanks I get is you calling me names? Just cause you're from the suburbs doesn't mean you get to act like a retarded FOOL who thinks they can do whatever they want. GROW UP!
**Caution: Shady Valet Service.
I hosted a large party at Sushi Taiyo; each member came from out of town, including myself.
Sushi rolls were good quality and ingredient choice. Cocktails are well blended with good ingredients.
Unfortunately, when a member of our 12-person party went to retrieve our car from the Valet, the restaurant manager said that the valet went home, she had no access to our car keys, and she dismissed our concerns. She then told us to go to a neighboring restaurant to 'their' valet to seek our car. The neighboring restaurant indicated that Sushi Taiyo was using their valet service without their awareness. Very questionable business practice.
**I recommend others to seek restaurants with legal business practices and NOT this restaurant. An overall disappointing experience for all of our party.
Hi! This is the manager again! Same party as above; as far as the LEGAL issue mentioned here, Taiyo IS NOT "using their valet service without their awareness." Our driver works for more than 1 restaurant. I knew where he was, and, thankfully for YOU, was able to direct you there so he could HELP you. None of this ridiculous mess would have happened in the first place if you had used your head and TOLD SOMEONE YOU WERE LEAVING. But maybe it's hard for you to use your brain. If so, I apologize.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Rough-hewn wood pillars and floors offer a stark contrast--and lend casual cred--to mod red bucket seating at this intimate, tightly packed River North sushi bar from the owners of Rise and Shine. Flooded with light from floor-to-ceiling windows, it attracts a young, chatty crowd that meets over funky fusion rolls, like the Tochigi with spicy tuna wrapped in mango and avocado in sweet-spicy sauce. New-style sashimi with miso-citrus, soy-ginger or wasabi-herb sauces and sake cocktails keep the contemporary spirit alive.
Great Maki Rolls!. I ate here for lunch a couple weeks ago and the rolls I tried were so yummy! The price is hard to beat and there are so many different rolls to choose from it was so hard to choose... I can't wait to come back here for dinner. I love the location, you can people watch and sip saki while you dine. I can't wait to eat here again!
