Who cares if this is a college-adjacent bar? It's AWESOME. Major TVs, awesome brunches, and cute college boys.

Never Again. Went here for Sunday breakfast. I am not a picky eater. Ordered eggs benedict - it came out 1 1/2 hours later with an overcooked egg on a half-eaten english muffin. NO LIE! I sent it back, the cook slapped a piece of canadian bacon on it and gave me the same soggy half-eaten muffin. It was disgusting - could not even eat it. Poorly managed. Poorly run and most certainly the most ridiculous excuses for why their establishment was not up to par. The waitress had heard complaints all morning and just shrugged her shoulders. I will never step foot into that place again. I will be sure to tell all of my friends about it as well.

Worst brunch experience. Had horrible service for brunch. It took almost 2 hours to get our food and once we did, everyone's orders were wrong. Had to send everything back at least once. At that point, we just took what we got and choked down what e could b/c everything was almost inedible. Manager offered up a weak apology and took one entree and our drinks (coffee) off of the bill. I'd been for dinner and the food was decent. Maybe this is a brunch problem. However, I'm beginning to understand why the place seems to always be empty. This place could be great but they need to overhaul the management.

Poor menu, slow service, mediocre food. It once was OK, but since they have gotten their liquor license they no longer care about the food. It has turned into a bar for underage Depaul students go to to. Dont go there trying to eat a good meal, as you wont get it, and deffinantly wont get it on time. Our order was delayed, even though the place was empty. I would hate to see how slow the service would be if the place would of been busy. I spent over $12 for a mediocre burger. It wasn't too bad, but deffinantly not worth over $12. I do not plan to go back there.

Horrible! Don't waste your time or money!. State was once a great place. Too bad they changed. I wish there was a way to give them a half star on CitySearch. Since getting their liquor license, State has greatly scaled back and changed their menu. The menu used to have many choices but now the choices are limited to burgers, 4 salads and a few boring sandwiches. All of the food is over priced for what you receive. (Burgers range from $7.75 for a plain cheeseburger without toppings to $14 for more deluxe burgers.) The service is slow and our server was clueless. When we ate there, it was lunch time and there were 6 other people in the entire place. While there 2 of the six people left after ordering but before eating as the service was SO slow. Our order arrived incorrect and took almost 40 minutes (we only ordered burgers). We had to wait then for them to correct our order and then had to flag down a server to request refills on our drinks. After giving the waitress our bill, we had to flag down another server to find out why it was taking 25 minutes to process the bill. Lunch took us over 1.5 hours! We were never offered an explanation for the delay or poor service and we were not given anything for our order being totally incorrect. I am sorry to say this once great place has become nothing more than a mediocre bar. I was so disappointed with this restaurant and will never dine there again!

Part supper club, part sports bar, this spacious Lincoln Park restaurant draws crowds with its American fare and casual atmosphere.. The Scene
Located near DePaul University, this roomy space features elements appealing to a diverse clientele. Dark woods, flickering candles and elevated semicircular booths on opposite walls lend an upscale supper-club feel, while 24 flat-screen TVs tuned to the game give a nod to neighborhood sports fans. Loud rock music often makes conversation a challenge, but the young, casual crowd doesn't seem to mind.

The Food

The menu leans toward classic American flavors, with some Asian and Italian influences. Appetizers include tender, lightly battered calamari and crostini topped with a creamy, gooey mixture of mushrooms, shrimp and melted Neufchatel cheese. A handful of maki also are available. The dinner menu features a variety of panini, entree-sized salads and thick sirloin burgers, grilled to order. Entrees include a tangy salmon piccata that gets zip from capers and marinated artichoke hearts in a white wine sauce. For dessert: dense and delicious cinnamon-y banana walnut bread pudding.

I Support State!. This restaurant is one of a kind. It is rare to be greeted with smiles from the moment you step into a restarant until the moment you leave. The staff is SUPER nice and accomadating. The bread the bring you is great and the entree's are really top notch. When you are there, you feel like you are royalty (especially if you are sitting at one of the very cool high booths!). Mondays and Wednesdays are 50% off all food. How can you beat that? I have been telling everyone about this place. And will not stop!!!

Great food. I have been to State for brunch, lunch, and dinner and I love it. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is very nice. The place is huge and has a ton of TVs to watch games. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very accomodating and nice. They don't have a liquor license, so you can bring your own. I definitely recommend State.

Great atmosphere, great food. We have been to the State a handful of times for dinner and every time the food was great, service top-notch, and overall experience fantastic. We have taken both small and large groups there and both have met with success. Have not tried brunch/lunch there but can't imagine it isn't as good as dinner. We will continue to frequent the place with or without a liquor license.

Lincoln Park Gem. I had a terrific experience at State. Not only was the atmosphere stellar, the service impeccable...the food was fantastic as well. A very diverse menu without being too overwhelming. The BYOB element was an additional bonus - in fact, it's too bad the joint can't stay that way. I will definitely go back perhaps with a larger group since the place seems to be suited for parties.
