Chicago has had a bit of ramen envy since the Momofuku craze hit New York City. Slumbering quietly on the top floor of Marshall Fields, Noodles by Takashi was always every bit as good, but no one noticed. Now, those same noodles are in River North, and we can't get enough of them. Slurping Turtle has a whole menu of Japanese favorites, but all we care about is the noodles. The signature dish, with rice noodles, napa cabbage, black tiger shrimp and cilantro, is the best $13 you'll ever spend downtown. Take that, NYC.

I'm come to the conclusion that every dish at Slurping Turtle is almost to pretty and delicate to eat. But one whiff of shoyu ramen or tonkotsu, and you can't keep your spoon down. On a last visit for lunch, I actually gave the spicy salmon donburi (rice bowl) a try, and was loving the array of textures, heat and umami flavors. How can you go wrong with salmon, scallion, onion and flying fish roe all in one bowl?

A slick space for a slurpy power lunch or a noodly dinner date. Love the little tapas-style bincho bites & the yuzu macarons for dessert.
