Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza

Tips for Pizzeria Uno

Unpleasant experience, Had heard there was going to be a long wait of about 45mins for a table. and sure enough we got there and were told 45mins to an hour. But that because we ordered then we wouldnt have to wait once we were sat down. No worries, Bought a drink and settled down to wait. TWO HOURS LATER we still didnt have our Pizza called the Manager, and politely told him, he was surly and irritable, he went off to the kitchen and came back with two lukewarm pizza, the onion and mushroom topping which was all piled up on one side was uncooked and stale. I was able to hold the pizza pan in my hands it was so cool to touch. Like a fool I ate two portions before deciding it wasnt worth the effort. The waitress asked me if everything was OK ,And when I told her she said "well dont pay for it then" She couldnt have cared less.

All the staff I encountered apart from the Barman. were unfreindly and unhelpful.

Everywhere else in Chicago we have been knocked out by the great service and freindliness in restaurants and shops. This could not have been further from that.

I think Uno is perhaps a victim of their own success.

If I were you I would take your money somewhere where they value your custom.

Sorry Uno pizza. I have lived in Chicago for over 30 years. I was looking forward to finally tasting Pizzeria Uno. We purchased two large pizzas one chicken and sausage. I am sad to say that on Friday 10-7-11 at 12:00pm. you guys must have been very busy in the kitchen because both of those pizzas were dry and not very tasty. Yes, I am very disappointed.

One of the Best Pizza in Chicago. I love Pizzeria Uno. They are a classic Chicago landmark restaurant.

The deep dish pizza here is so good, it's not the classic deep dish you think of like the kind you get from Giordanos, but it is excellent!

Get the supreme style pizza, you will absolutely love it.

I have always gotten great service here and love the atmosphere.

bland pizza, stolen purse and terrible managing. DEEP DISH for sure and while there was a 1 hour wait I can't say it was worth it. The pizza was bland and did not have much sauce, if any, on it. The sauce pretty much consisted of cut up whole tomatoes. It tasted like I was eating dough. The salad was drenched in dressing so much so lettuce covered with dressing on the bottom of the bowl. The serving size however was well worth the price. I would have considered giving Pizzeria Uno a second chance since people rave about it until I discovered my purse was stolen during my lunch. I informed the waiter my purse was stolen, he apologized and said "not again". He went to go inform the manager and when he came back he said there is nothing we can do for you. It happens a lot here and which is why we have a security guard but he is off duty today. I inquired about getting the meal free due to the major inconvenience and he said the manager is not authorizing it. The manager didn't even come out to speak with me! It was the worst service I have encountered at any establishment. The 1 star "EH" does not adequately explain how displeased I have been with the whole experience. I am always going to different pizza shops and trying different recipes since chicago has an array to choose from but this has been the worst establishment I have come across.

Visitor beware whenever going to Pizzeria Uno. They have a track record of stolen property and bad managing.

Deep dish!. People seem to either hate Pizzeria Uno, or love it, depending on their love of pizza and their background. This review is geared toward tourists, as downtown locals more than likely have been here already and have formed their opinons.

Things tourists might dislike:

The wait times can be pretty long (45 mins to over an hour when it's busy) and the place is small and cramped. Noise levels can also get pretty loud.

Things tourists might like:

Even though the wait times can be long, you can at least place your order when you put your name down so at least you may not have to wait much longer after you sit down for your deep dish pizza (which traditionally takes longer to make than a regular or thin crust).

Things tourists might like or dislike:

The deep dish pizza itself! I've had friends from the west coast come out and absolutely love the pie-like crust and how the toppings are placed under the cheese. At the same time, I've heard complaints about the tomato chunks in the sauce. Friends from the east coast have just plainly said that nothing is better than New York pizza. I have not had the chance to judge, though I hope to do so this summer.

Terrible service. Terrible experience... I brought a friend who's from out of town to experience Chicago deep dish pizza. I have had other brands of deep dish in Chicago, thought I would try Uno for the first time with my friend.

We sat down knowing that pizza might take a while but still wanted to try.

However when it's almost an hour, we finally asked the hostess (waitress was no where to be found) to check on our food, she said “it’ll be a few more minutes” without even checking. I asked her if she could check, and she came back saying “it’s only been 51 minutes, it could take up to one hour usually". I said “but two other tables with more people and ordered more food and larger pizza have all gotten their food” , she said" they probably ordered before you did", I said “ No, they didn't sit down after we have placed the order”. She was visibly upset and said “ we have warned you it could be a while, they will bring it out when it’s ready.” And walked away. I asked to speak to the manager. We waited another about 10 minutes before we got our “ small” pizza. If the service attitude had been nicer, it wouldn’t be such a terrible experience of waiting. It was so terrible that I don’t think I will ever take any friends there.

I saw an episode of Chicago deep dish pizza on travel channel where Uno’s pizza was compared with lou malnati's pizza. I regretted terribly I didn’t go for another pizza restaurant where I knew I had great experience before.

No matter how great the recipe of the pizza or how great the company name is, the customer service ruined the whole meal and we spent 2 hours for a small pizza and a ruined Sunday lunch.

Pizzeria Uno FAIL. Big fan of Uno's been going there on when in Chicago for year. Went there yesterday and hadn't been in a couple of years and I was very disappointed. First off the pizza just tasted old... I mean I had to wait 45 min for the pizza and the crust was dried out and cool like the pie had been sitting for a while, and I got it as carry out and waited in the store for a half an hour. All I'm saying is if I had to sit and wait on my pizza for a half an hour why did my pizza taste like a frozen pizza that had been sitting out for an hour?!?! If you want great pizza in Chicago at this point forget Uno's and go to Giordano's

Nothing to like. Wait is long. Pizza is Terrible. Service is not very good either. I have a feeling they troll this site putting in good reviews of themselves. How about putting that effort into improving your game instead of just trying to strip tourists of their cash.

Apparently I only like Detroit-style deep dish..... After living with Pizza Papalis in Detroit for so many years, I just assumed that that was a decent representation of Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Boy, was I wrong! The pizza arrived and it was not at all what I know and love as "deep dish". It was essentially a really doughy pizza. While a Pizza Papalis pizza weighs like 20 pounds from being packed with cheese and meat and vegetables, Uno was mostly dough, with the usual amount of cheese and toppings on top. Just sitting on top! Like a regular pizza! Why is that so special?

Therefore, I don't refer to Michigan deep dish pizzas as "Chicago-style" anymore. Who wants a mouthful of dough? Go eat some pancakes.

Great Deep Dish!. Chicago style pizza is perfected here! The crust is flaky, the cheese is hot and gooey, and the sauce is perfect! The old-Italian/old Chicago decor is great too. Definitely recommended.
