Tips for Jewelry Exchange

March 07, 2013

This is listed as closed, but let me assure you that it is VERY MUCH OPEN!

This place is a ridiculously good value. They are all about giving you a great price and dont overly romanticize it, which was right up my alley. The deal I got on a 1 ct diamond in a beautiful semimount would probably have only bought me a little 1/2 ct or smaller at other places. My fiance is BEYOND happy too. i LMAO at ficticious profile Sarah D down below vvvv lol. I asked the folks at Jewelry Exchange and they dont even sell cubic zirconia!! this place is such an awesome value that I think local competitors are resorting to dirty tactics to besmirch their good name. haha do yourself a favor and go in and decide for yourself! >.<

I will never step foot in this place again! My now ex-fiance and I bought an engagement ring there, spent over $900 dollars believing it to be the real deal...diamonds. Well, now that that relationship is over, I tried selling back to the ring. Six separate jewelers ALL told me that my diamond is a cubic zirconia! A CZ!! Are you kidding me?! This store promises real diamonds, gave me a card that said the diamond was legitimate, and it turns out it is a fake! Unbelievable...$900 for a fake! Today, I also called asking if they could resize a ring for me. The guy on the phone was extremely cocky because I did not buy the ring there. I don't know why I thought I would give them a chance....never going here or recommending them again!!!

Do not shop here if you value customer service and respect. I would give Jewelry Exchange 0 stars if I could.

My fiancé bought me a beautiful ring from Jewelry Exchange; however, 3 months later diamonds started falling out. When I brought the ring in to the store I was told that almost all of the diamonds were loose. They assured me that the settings would be reinforced and I should not experience any more problems. However, within 11 months I ended up losing a total of 3 diamonds. Each time I brought the ring in I was told that all of the settings were reinforced and that I shouldn't have any more problems. After the 2nd diamond fell out I asked a sales associate if my ring was losing diamonds because the setting was more delicate than other settings. After looking at my ring, she told me that my ring is NOT delicate and that does not explain why diamonds are falling out.

After the 3rd diamond fell out I was furious. I brought my ring in to the store the next day and had the unfortunate experience of working with May, a manager. I demanded that my fiancé receive a refund or at the very least, a warranty extension, since my warranty was almost over. May refused both requests without any hesitation and dealt with me in a very uncaring and unsympathetic manner. She made me feel as if she didn't care about my situation and was very flippant. She eventually agreed to send my ring to corporate so that they could determine if the setting was defective.

Corporate had my ring for 4 weeks and determined that nothing was wrong. When I picked up my ring I had another terrible experience when I met the Asst Manager, Niko. When I asked him what corporate did to my ring he told me that it was completely re-tipped and that I should not have any more problems, then he told me that I should wait for a 4th diamond to fall out, and then he told me that he didn't know what they did and I would need to come back and talk to Kathy, another manager. Niko's demeanor was rude and unsympathetic and he made me feel as if I was wasting his time. He clearly just wanted me to leave the store. After dealing with him I truly felt that no one at that store cared about my ordeal.

When I met with Kathy to find out what was done, I found out that the reason diamonds were falling out was because my ring is a micro pave setting which is highly delicate (keep in mind I asked this EXACT question the 2nd time a diamond fell out). My ring NEVER should have gone to corporate because someone should have recognized this when the 1st diamond fell out. I also need to add that my fiancé was never told that micro pave settings were delicate and not meant to be worn every day when he bought my ring. For these reasons, Kathy offered to exchange my ring for a new one.

When my fiancé and I went to exchange my ring I was HIGHLY emotional. When I met with Kathy I told her about how awful my experience was and I told her about the way Niko treated me. Kathy walked away and the next thing I knew, Niko was approaching me and shouting, "Hey! You got a problem with me??" He got in my face and demanded to know what he did wrong. He began yelling at me and when my fiancé demanded that he walk away he refused. I felt completely attacked. My fiancé continued to tell him to back off and Niko proceeded to suggest that my fiancé was threatening him. At that point I completely lost it and burst into tears. I felt so humiliated that I had to leave the store. Niko walked away when I started crying and did not apologize. Due to this experience, I decided to forego the exchange and keep my original ring because I never want to walk in to that store again or deal with any of their rude and incompetent employees. I also need to mention that the next Monday, Kathy called me and told me that my fiancé was rude to her. Considering he spent thousands of dollars on a ring that was falling apart I think he every right to be rude to her and the rest of her employees.

Very unethical. Bought an engagement ring at jewelry exchange in Villa Park and left it to have it sized. Went to pick it up the next day and was given completely different ring with inferior diamonds. When I told them that's not the ring I paid for was told that is the ring I chose. This is theft, made big mistake bying there and will never go there again.

This is the place to go. I was shopping for a present for my wife and saw the ads on tv. Went in and was greeted as soon as I walked in. The person I worked with ( wish I could remember the name) was so helpful. I was on a tight budget and didn t have alot of money but you would have thought that I was spending thousands of dollars the way I was treated, I ended up with a great necklace for the price I could afford. I am going to tell everyone I know that this is the place to go for great service and prices.

Amazing service!. I went to the Jewelry Exchange last weekend and was helped by one of the nicest & most helpful employees EVER (Shadi)! I'm getting married in October & was very indecisive about what I wanted to get. Shadi stayed with me and never lost his patience or concentration. If ever there was a question he would get the answer right away and made sure I was happy. I couldn't believe how thorough and unbelievably helpful this employee was!!! I brought my fiance back into the store a couple of days later to be sized for the ring & was met with smiling faces and warm hellos. I walked out feeling very satisfied with my experience and purchase.

I actually was in a very well-known jewelry store one time and the sales lady actually talked down about my fiance she didn't even know because we'd been together a long time & still weren't engaged. I couldn't believe the treatment & the nerve of this employee! That experience really scared me away from all of the jewelry stores because that's the last thing I need to deal with! And even though I look very young, I was treated with the utmost respect. I wanted to make sure the gentleman that assisted me gets the recognition he definitely deserves! If more places had employees like him shopping would be a much more enjoyable and much less stressful time! Thanks for all of your patience and help Shadi!!

Excellent Service. I can't say enough about the time and effort the salesperson (Kathy) spent with me in picking out a ring over Christmas. It was a few days before Christmas and I was looking for something special and unique for a gift. I had been to several other more well known stores in Chicago, when a friend suggested the Jewelry Exchange. I was amazed at how Kathy treated me like I was the only customer in the store, even though it was jammed with other people. She wanted to make sure that I was really happy with my purchase and it didn't matter how much time it took. Some of the other stores I had been to were high pressure and didn't want to spend the time to ensure you were pleased wtih your purchase. Well thanks to her effort and expertise I bought a ring that my girlfriend recieves compliments on constanlty and could not be happier with.

If you are looking for excellent service to go along with quality, then the Jewelry Exchange is the place to go.

Great Experience. Purchased a pair of diamond earrings and an ankle bracelet. Sales person was very knowledgeable and kept me in my budget. I had shopped at a couple of different jewelry stores and their prices and quality could not be beat. I will shop there again and refer my family and friends!!

Horrible! F+ BBB Rating...Stay away from this place!. I had previously had a pair of diamond earrings purchased from here that were beautiful, so I thought why not go back there (May 2010) to have my engagement ring sized. I took it there because they do the work right on the spot. Unfortunately because of the diamonds on the band, they couldn't re-size it...Next option? Have it re-set. I pick out a very pretty and well priced channel set setting. They pulled the center stone out of my ring while I was still there so I could inspect it, (everything was fine) and sent me home with the original setting, sans the diamond. I was told it would be ready the next day.

I went back the next day to pick it up and it looked good. Maybe I was a little too excited to have it back, but I didn't notice until I got home that it was set more like a princess cut...which it's not. It's a cushion cut. Ok, so I was a little disappointed...I didn't necessarily want a "princess cut", but it still looks nice. I think I can deal with it. I also started to notice that one of the prongs didn't lay flat on the stone and it kept snagging things.

So a few months pass and I go back to get a wedding band because I had a gift card. I happened to mention to the sales lady that the setting on my engagement band wasn't exactly what I was expecting--that one of the prongs kept snagging clothes and if you run your finger over it, you could feel that it isn't flush to the stone like the others. She basically told me there wasn't anything she could do about it and to deal with it. I should have known something was up.

So I was just at another local jeweler and he asked if I wanted my ring cleaned, which of course I did! He pulled out his loop to look at it and informed me that the center stone was chipped. Weird...when I looked at it before I had it re-set there wasn't anything wrong with it. He pointed out that the chip was caused by having it re-set, and it is in fact, in the same spot where the prong doesn't lay flat. He also informed me that this isn't a chip that would happen from bumping it, and said again, it happened when it was re-set. He also told me that in order to get rid of the chip, the ring would need to be re-cut--taking it from a 9 point to a 8 point (if they could even do that)--de-valuing it tremendously.

When I left that jeweler, I immediately called Jewelry Exchange. I spoke with Jean who informed me that since I had it re-set "some time ago" (the last time I checked, 7.5 months really isn't "some time ago"), there wasn't anything they could do about it, the chip wasn't their fault, and the jeweler is supposed to tell them if something happens when they are working on jewelry. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. I let Jean know that if we aren't able to get this resolved (especially since the stone is now de-valued), I would be contacting an attorney, and she told me to call back tomorrow and speak with Cathy the manager. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but for now I think everyone should stay away from that place.
