Tuna Over Crispy Rice Not worth Abusive Staff. The service industry occupies a wide spectrum. Past ineptitude, falls "attitude" where the bartender knows she is inept and shoves it in the face of customers. At Sunda, management is highly skilled at hiring buffoons that can ruin the best of meals.

On this fine eve of Blackout Wednesday, the female wanted to hit Sunda for a few. All seemed quiet on the drinking front and we looked forward to a friendly bar scene at a place where the default is that of crush and never comfort. Friendly. Riiiight.

Someone forgot to tell that evening's bar-tend duo that the bar was empty. In normal circumstances (and for normal workers) the laws of supply and demand dictate that the smaller number of customers should be treated better in order to maximize tip-profits. Instead, these two put on a symphony of stupid never before seen at such distance from LA. I guess the crispy rice and tuna was not the only thing they imported from the land of lazy. But just a note: the actor attitude, although never forgivable when working, you know, AS A BARTENDER, isn't even plausible when you're not all that hot and don't have the loud obnoxious Margaret Cho personality fat chicks develop to compensate for boys not kissing them in high school.

As we were packing up to leave, I explained to my companion why our presence was cut short. At that moment, a voice from right beside us introduced himself as the Assistant GM. He was not on duty and much like we, just stopped in for a drink. He had overheard the peak of the frustration and offered us some drinks and a profuse apology. We accepted both. And even though he was a nice, disarming guy who at a young age already mastered the art of customer politics, a bar that permits its staff to be rude deliberately and then make sure the customer is fully aware of the intent is no place that will ever see my voluntary pennies. Unless they're fired from a slingshot.

Love,

Terrible. Not worth a dime!. I was initially looking forward to trying this place out. As a native Chicagoan and quite a foodie, I'm always in the market for trying new places. As an Asian (Filipino to be exact) I was quite intrigued by their "interpretations" of authentic Filipino Food. I ordered all the Filipino inspired dished for the table.

Bad Mistake.

The food was poorly seasoned, heavy, un-authenthic - with the interpretations downright insulting. We took a few bites of everything, but nothing was working....did they even consult a true Asian when determining the menu? And to boot, a few hours later each of us were sick to our stomachs and confined to the bathroom til early hours in the morning. Disgusting, I know...but do yourselves a favor, skip this restaurant or just get drinks.

Good Vibe but. The vibe was good. A happening place with a good crowd. We had to do the communal seating which took away from enjoying the food. No coat check from what I could tell (and it definitely wasn't brought to our attention). You sit on a bar stool with your jacket on your lap AND the bar stool doesn't have a bar running across to rest your feet on. So if you're short, you're basically trying to balance yourself on a tall bar stool with no foot support...oh and juggling your jacket on your lap too. Oh wait...that's right the table has a piece of wood going across underneath that you can place your feet on to for support. But that's if you're one of the lucky ones at the table to find free space under there. There will not be room under there for everyone. Tell me that doesn't take away from a dining experience. Seriously?!?! The noodles were delicious. The lolipops were under cooked - raw basically because we asked for them medium to well done. We were a bit turned off and stopped ordering and instead jumped to dessert. Thank god we had a great waitress otherwise it would have been an extremely negative experience. Just an uncomfortable situation. Blah!

Great drinks, ok food, bad service. I really love their soup dumplings and the popcorn shrimps. Sushi is fresh but the cooked food are so-so. The duck, fliet mignon and lamb did not impress me... we wanted our steak rare... it came out medium well. I asked the server if it is rare. He said yes. You will have to be blind not be able to tell that it is not red in the center. Love the drink list tho...

Service was pretty bad. They put plates on the table without readjusting the plates/glasses, so after they serve us soup/appetizers/main course, we have to move everything ourself. We ordered bottled water and they decided to chill it for us but never refill our glass unless we ask. We went at 9pm on a weekday and it was NOT busy anymore. We got better service at the bar last time from the bartender. They really need to retrain their staff.
