My favorite Ethiopian place in Chicago. Love their sambussas & their azifah selata. Their mossabs are phenomenal.
wonderful experience, delicious food. I spent some time in Ethiopia and when I returned to Chicago I missed the food. Luckily I discovered Demera. Bottom line, be prepared for a cultural experience sharing a platter of food with friends/family, eating with your hands, and Ethiopian music playing in the background. Order a messob that way you can try a variety of menu items. Vegetarian, vegan, and meat options are all delicious with varying degrees of spiciness to satisfy all.
charged more than menu states. Check your bill if you dine here. We ordered house wine listed at $6/glass. Bill came and we were charged $7/glass. Attempted to show waitress on the menu and explain verbally but language barrier or lack of concern resulted in waitress flailing her hands stating she did not understand. It was easier to pay the extra dollars than deal with this lack of respect for the customer.
Authentic Ethiopian fare is served in an elegant and culturally immersive setting in Uptown..
In Short
This corner restaurant is a love letter to all things Ethiopian, from an elaborate stained glass ceiling fixture to the artwork adorning the walls. A modestly sized bamboo bar is set alongside small, intimate tables and ample window views framed with delicate curtains. Extensive lists of vegetarian, lamb and beef meals top the menu, but the messob dishes allow diners to create individual sample platters of their choosing.
