Kai Zan is exactly what you imagine when you hear "sushi bar." You could just about stretch your arms across the tiny space, taken up almost entirely by the sushi bar itself. Sit at the bar or take one of the tiny, intimate booths and tell your server you want the Omakase menu. Trust us. Omakase is the Japanese version of a tasting menu, and there are so many wonderful things on the menu at Kai Zan that there's just no way you could choose on your own. Steelhead trout sashimi, dressed with a dash of citrus. Fresh sea urchin just scooped from the shell. Mussels the size of your fist, steamed on the grill. Bring your own bottle of sake and watch the show - and be pleasantly surprised when it turns out that you can actually afford it.
