Wine bars are coming back. But these aren't the annoying, pretentious and stultified wine bars of the 90s; these wine bars are comfortable, inexpensive and warm. Bar Pastoral is leading the pack. An extension of the popular Lakeview location of the acclaimed wine and cheese shop, the new Bar Pastoral, dressed up to look like a wine cellar, dispenses great wines by the glass, 18 kinds of cheese, charcuterie and a few full-sized plates. Try the grilled cheese with ricotta, Saxony and pear - trust us. If you get there a bit after dinnertime, the late-night menu runs until 1 a.m. There isn't a better place in Chicago to cozy up after a long workday and have a glass (or three) of wine.

Cheese, wine, beer... it's exactly what you'd want from an adorable wine bar. During the day, get one of Pastoral's excellent sandwiches and eat them in the dining room.
