BourbonBourbon is an american whiskey, a type of distilled spirit, named for bourbon county, kentucky. It must be produced in the us, made from a grain mixture containing at least 51% corn and that it must be stored for at least two years in charred casks made from new american white oak. Lastly, the raw spirit may not be distilled with an alcohol content exceeding more than 80% by volume.
Single Barrel BourbonSingle barrel bourbon is a term that describes a premium class of bourbon whiskey in which each bottle comes from an individual charred oak barrel, instead of being the product of many different barrels blended for uniformity of color and taste. The whiskey from each barrel is bottled individually with each bottle bearing the barrel number and in most cases the dates for the beginning and end of aging; none of the whiskey is blended, creating a unique flavor for each barrel rye whiskey meets the same requirements as bourbon, but must be made from at least 51% rye. Rye whiskey is slightly more powerful and bitter than bourbon. While the best bourbon is known for a creamy, caramel-like palate, the best rye whiskey makes its presence known with a spicy, grainy, hard-edged firmness that is distinctive and unique. Usually very dry, with notes of walnut, toasted grain, and black pepper, straight rye has a bold assertive character.
Wheat WhiskeyWheated bourbon uses wheat instead of rye in the typical grain bill of 75% corn 15% rye 10% malt.
Corn WhiskeyAs the name suggests corn is the main ingredient; the mash must consist of at least 80 percent corn. Another difference between corn whiskey and bourbon is that corn whiskey does not have to be aged in wood. If corn whiskey is to be aged, any maturation must be done in either un-charred barrels or used bourbon barrels.
