Need varied week day times
by Fillipa
During spring breaks and other vacations the week day movie times should be the same as the weekends.
At Christmas I took a couple of days off to shop, but mainly to get to a few early movies. I showed up not paying attention to the daily paper for an early viewing of "I'm Not Alone" and would have had to wait 3 hours to see it. Sorry, but there really isn't that much to do around there. Maybe if the food court had been open? Got tired of walking around and saw another film. Never got to see the one I wanted as it was the last day it played there.
- Pros: Comfortable seats.
- Cons: Prices went up recently. Wouldn't they get more customers with more movie times? You have to climb to the sky box section to see.
2nd best arthouse theater in the city!
by dctomlinson
One of my favorite locations. Yeah, it's different than other theaters, but big deal. Prices are OK, parking is convenient and validated, good restaurants (lunch, anyway) are near, and it shows the types of movies that I want to see. And the seats are a heck of a lot more comfortable than the Music Box, my favorite theater.
- Pros: good selection of independent movies, validated parking, good location
- Cons: small theaters, wierd access to theaters that are on different levels than the box office
I hate this place.
by dsines7
Yes they show great movies that you can't find anywhere else in the city... but! The theatre is expensive. They only has discounted prices for the 1st show of the day... which is usually @ 11am. I get a bad feeling when I walk in. A tad pretentious. I try to avoid this theatre as often as I can.
- Pros: good movie selection
- Cons: pricey - even for a movie theatre, bad atmosphere, parking
Excellent selection of movies, good staff
by greenline74
I've been watching movies at the Century for 4 years, and the movies I've seen there (from the Int'l Film Festivals to straight features) have all been excellent productions. They run foreign, indie, and mainstream. I've never had problems with the staff and they've been consistently helpful. The audio is more than adequate. My only gripe is that they could use more back-friendly seating. Aside from that, the Century is worth the frequent visit.
- Pros: Excellent selection, adequate seating, decent concessions
- Cons: Seats need a major upgrade
The Gold Standard of Multiplexes
by uncamark
One hopes that Mark Cuban knows what a treasure he's purchased in Landmark Theatres and that he'll leave them be. Meanwhile, the Lincoln Park multiplex (near Landmark's first Chicago acquisition, the Parkway, now a Lenscrafters) is an example of how to run an speciality plex. Comfortable theaters with good sound and projection, good concessions (although I wish they had not succombed to Coke), friendly, film-savvy employees and a great mix of Indie-wood, "true indie," documentaries and subtitled films (even the occasional mainsteam pic like "Connie and Carla," which fits considering the Century's neighborhood). Even the IFC commercials before the film are entertaining the first five or six times. Chicago long needed a facility like Landmark Century--its success proves that Chicagoans will support a well-run specialty house and it's made the Music Box a more competitive operation.
- Pros: Comfortable seating, Good projection, Sharp programming
"Art house multiplex" is no longer an oxymoron at this fancy Lakeview movie theater.

The Theater
The seven theaters are small but first-rate, with wall-to-wall screens, stadium seating and high-backed chairs with cupholders. The layout is confusing, to say the least, but the staff will show you around. Dark, solid colors with art deco trimmings give an air of gravity and class to the whole affair. The Century plays mainstream art house fare (mostly American) mixed in with the occasional documentary or foreign film. Not very adventurous, but usually a good lineup.
The Crowd
The cognoscenti of Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast looking for "quality" cinema predominate, with smatterings of sullen art-house types despondent over going to a chain theater (but secretly enjoying it).

Art house theater in blockbuster clothes
by jeremyreed_citysearch
You would swear you were in a huge cineplex showing only big, blockbuster movies. Instead, this theater brings to town great films with the comfort usually offered by a mainstream megaplex.
- Pros: great films
- Cons: needs more leg room
Grown to love it
by jpanderson_citysearch
Used to really be annoyed by the weird vertical shopping mall-yness of this place, but now I don't want to go anywhere else. Stadium seating for art films rules. Good, clean, roomy.
- Pros: comfortable ambience, great movies, clean
- Cons: pricey
