friendly lula

i'm very fortunate to live very near to lula cafe and go there frequently. it really is one of the best places to go for consistently good contemporary food, that's not too fussy, at amazingly reasonable prices. my one complaint USED to be that they always had terrible service. i mean terrible. we even wrote a few letters. But now, they seemed to have seen the light and ditched the waitstaff with the "too cool to serve you" attitude. Now everyone there is super friendly, helpful, and committed to making your meal great.

the good: food, service, and overall atmosphere are top-notch. an extraordinary, ever-changing specials menu gives you a new, amazing dish every weekend before 2, and even it's regular dishes are great.
the bad: waiting. in the winter. outside and miserable. also, it rarely isn't crowded, even in the bar waiting area, and you're lucky if you're only in there 15 minutes.
the ugly: though the art itself is beautiful, it rarely changes, and while an exhibit of R.E.M.-inspired artwork is interersting, i doubt anyone looks at it and thinks 'this will never get old', the flowers always look like they've been dead for six months, and if you bring your kids prepare to have everyone in the building hate your fertile guts.
Good for a casual lunch with a couple friends

I went to Lula's for an early lunch with some friends one morning. It is a little small, and has an indie vibe. The waiters are in regular clothes. It seems sort of run down from the outside, but that adds to the charm, as it is very modern in the inside. There are exotic flowers at every table. The menu is a little small but the food is very fresh and tasty. It's healthy too, no deep-fried chicken here. I would recommend the fruit smoothie. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if I'm walking by I would definitely stop in.
- Pros: Tasty, lean food
- Cons: Semi-decent service
Delicious!

I've been referred to Lula's by a friend, have since then have taken many friends on many weekends to this delicious, savory spot! The Sunday line is annoyingly long, but the food is well worth the wait! The STRADA is the absolute BEST! My friends enjoyed their breakfast burritos, and the morning drinks are delicious as well! The only disappointing thing was the French Toast... I'd go elsewhere for those...
- Pros: Savories!
- Cons: the long line, the French Toast

Definitely known for hipsters, but if you ever let a type of people stop you from experiencing a restaurant then you are for sure missing out on a lot of awesome food [and other stuff too].
This restaurant has spectacularly delicious food. The menu is hard to read sometimes since there are some non-traditional/not common foods and ingredients used, but the staff has always been friendly when I ask them questions about the menu. I'm pretty positive they're used to it. I really enjoy the potatoes that come with some of the dishes, and the turkey sandwich is by far my favorite dish there. The prices can range from the relatively lower end (8 bucks) to the relatively higher end (20). For a unique dining experience and a must in Chicago.

I have to admit, I have a very soft spot for Lula. Yes, it's trendy, overflowing with hipsters, and the wait for brunch can be a serious buzzkill, but the food is totally worth it. The waitstaff is actually quite friendly and their ever-changing menu is comprised of the finest local organic ingredients. You can always be sure that their dishes are seasonal and delicious. A word to the wise: if you plan on going here for their exceptional brunch, try to go as soon as they open to avoid the hipster rush.

If you can ignore the art on the walls (which is universally terrible hipster junk) then your experience should be close to ideal. While the service is a little laid back, everyone is very friendly. And of course, the food is the real draw--an eclectic ever-changing seasonal menu of a lot of locally sourced and organic ingredients, always prepared in unexpected ways. Still, they do have some standbys that are always good and usually pretty cheap too. It's a great place to go in that respect, because if you want to splurge you definitely can, but if you'd rather not spend a lot of money you don't have to. They also make a great Irish coffee. What's not to like? I guess the wait can be a little long, and Mondays (farm night) are the only night when it's worth waiting more than like 30 minutes.

This restaurant serves upscale yet approachable, sometimes homey food in a nice atmosphere. Located in the heart of Logan Square, it caters to hipsters and foodies. As long as you don't let the verging-on-pretentious vibe get to you, it is a lovely place to enjoy a high-quality meal. They use high quality ingredients from local, organic sources when possible. If you care about good food, this place is a must.
