The channel bridge at Lake Shore Drive restricts the harbor to power boats, but it's still a busy port. Driving to the harbor on weekends will test your patience with traffic; early mornings and late afternoons are generally less congested.

The Details
The slips accommodate boats up to 50 feet. A few are set aside for transient docking; check with the Harbor Master's office on Cannon Drive for availability. For a minimal fee you can use the public launch ramps if all you need is a place to drop in your boat. The channel to the harbor bends sharply, so extra awareness of other craft is advised. Free parking is provided for boaters. To rent a slip for the full season, call the Chicago Park District Marine Department at (312) 747-0737. Harbor fishing is allowed with a fishing license in designated areas. Sport fishing charters operate out of the harbor as well.
